What's your favoUrite song on The Mantle?

Maybe I just wasn't in the right mood, but the last time I listened to The Mantle I honestly had difficulty getting through the whole disc. I loved it when it first came out.

I'd say In the Shadow of our Pale Companion without a doubt. But now that a few years have passed and I've managed to distance myself somewhat from this record, I have to say it is very inconsistent. There's really no coherency among the tracks, besides them beeing extremly good tunes that is. But I get the feeling of something stitched together and lacking a natural flow, what with the "break tracks" tossed between the "real" songs

In The Shadow Of Our Pale Companion

And The Great Cold Death Of The Earth

seriously, I think the album should have ended with "...And the Great Cold Death..." It would have had such the perfect effect of the album beginning and ending on the same note... like being cyclical, or having continuity or some other hippie bullshit like that.

it's an encore to the album, not a bonus track. the major piece that is "the mantle" ends and this is the folky outro that says to us "goodnight"

or something

"and the great cold death of the earth" is excellent, and the lyrics remind me of my Heathen Winter shirt

"I am the wooden doors" reminds me a lot of Ulver's "I troldskog faren vild"...but then most Agalloch reminds me of Bergtatt :loco:

chalk up another vote for Pale Companion

although my favorite used to be A Hawthorne Passage. you can't beat the second half of this song. brain meltingly good

I'll have to listen to this again to be sure, but it's probably between In the Shadow of our Pale Companion and And the Great Cold Death of the Earth, as seems to be the majority consensus.

I finnally bought this beast today, and I believe I like the hawthorne passage the best maybe.. Montreal is neat! They had negura bunget at HMV and I saw Lord Worm in the airport:headbang:
