I have to say, I'm terribly well versed in metal as compared to a lot on this board. Up until now I signed off on thrash as mostly stuff that I...just...can't...get into... like Kreator.

Today I bought The Best of Annihilator...

THAT SHIT FUCKING RULES!!! I know, I know, "I can't believe that dumbshiut hasn't heard of Annihilator before." Gimme a break.

Anyhow, I hate to be the typical knothead and ask for recommendations for other thrash bands that I might like (Annihilator.)

I couldn't get into:

Kreator
Slayer
Anthrax

I'm not so sure about:

Testament
Exodus

Is this very many? Not really.

Perhaps you are getting the wrong albums to those bands (i wont recommend Anthrax albums because i never liked them but if i had to pick one get their Among The Living album)... You should really revisit 80's thrash...

Slayer- Hell Awaits
Reign in Blood
South of Heaven
Seasons in the Abyss

Testament - The New Order
The Legacy
Practice What You Preach
Souls of Black

Exodus- Bonded by Blood
Fabulous Disaster
Tempo of the Damned

Kreator- Pleasure to Kill
Extreme Aggression

Nuclear Assault - Survive

D.R.I. - Crossover
Four of a Kind
Thrashzone

Sacred Reich - Ignorance
Surf Nicaragua
American Way

Megadeth - Peace Sells But Whose Buying
Rust in Peace

Metallica - Kill Em All
Ride the Lightning
Master of Puppets

Death Angel - Ultra-Violence

Art of Dying

Vio-Lence - Eternal Nightmare

Forbidden Evil - Forbidden

Dark Angel - Darkness Descends

Sepultura - Arise

Whiplash - Ticket to Mayhem
Power & Pain

VoiVod - Dimension Hatross
Nothingface
Roaarrrrrrrrrr

Motorhead - Orgasmatron
OverKill
Ace of Spades
1916
Iron Fist
Bomber
No Sleep at All
No Sleep till Hammersmith

Pantera - Far Beyond Driven
Cowboys from Hell
Vulgar Display of Power

Venom(considered early Black Metal but still thrashy) - Black Metal
Welcome to Hell

Bathory (same as Venom in description) - Bathory
Under the Sign of the Black Mark
Blood Fire Death
Hammerheart

If i think of any others ill let you know.. tired right now from working yesterday.... but try the list i gave you and report back to us..

Thanks man.

EDIT:

So far these are the closest to what I like:

Testament - Souls of Black
Slayer - Hell Awaits Us
Exodus - I love the playing but hate the vocals

D.R.I and Nuclear Assault are the epitome of what I don't want.

Annihilator is mostly shit after the first two albums...

These are Thrash bands/particular albums that are on the more melodic side:

Dekapitator - We Will Destroy...You Will Obey!!!
Hades - Resisting Success
Hades - If At First You Don't Succeed
Heathen - Breaking The Silence
Heathen - Victims Of Deception
Holy Terror - Terror And Submission
Holy Terror - Mind Wars
Whiplash - Insult To Injury
Whiplash - Thrashback
Coroner - R.I.P.
Coroner - Punishment For Decadence
Coroner - No More Color
Destruction - Infernal Overkill
Destruction - Eternal Devastation
Exodus - Bonded By Blood
Flotsam And Jetsam - No Place For Disgrace (the guitar tone is brutal, the songwriting's more melodic)
Forbidden - Forbidden Evil
Forbidden - Twisted Into Form
etc...

Doden forgot to mention Flotsam's debut... Doomsday for the Deceiver (don't pay attention to Jason's playing as usual lol ) .... anyways why dont you like D.R.I. and Nuclear Assault? ... like i said earlier you are perhaps listening to the wrong albums ... and if you only listen to one album that you don't like you are not giving them a fair listen by listen to other albums... both bands are great.. i seen them live a few times back in the late 80's and both blew me away with their performances... so give them another shot ... which albums have you heard of theirs? just out of curiosity...

Mostly power metal and it's derivatives.

Then some prog...

I'm incredibly picky.

EDIT: I really loath the vocal styles of DRI and Nuclear Assault. If you took out the vocal track I'd love that shit.

I don't really like DRI period. Too punky. I don't hate them, like I hate bands like WASP and Dream Theatre, though. I like bands from every genre, and I like almost all the death metal I hear and most of the black metal I hear.

Well, I just don't like DRI... their vocals remind me of rap/punk. I don't hate them, like I hate bands like Suffocation and Immortal. I like at least one band from pretty much every genre, and I like most prog and power metal I hear. What's your point?

I would recommend Testament - The Gathering, a very strong album with an awesome sound compared to a lot of other thrash bands.

I was just agreeing, saying that I don't particularly care for DRI, though I do not hate them. BTW, I also like a good amount of power and prog metal.

If you like power metal, check out Overkill and Forbidden for thrash bands, as they have high pitched clean vocals singing an actual vocal melody. I really like Overkill, but I think Forbidden sucks. You may very well like Forbidden, though. You would probably also like Laaz Rockit, though I personally don't like them at all.
