Why aren't there that many Indonesian immigrants here?

Something i was pondering today, they have a massive population and are INCREDIBLY close to us, yet i've barely seen any Indonesian immigrants around melbourne, i've only ever known 1.

You'd think they wouldn't be that rare around these parts!

because they tend to go to other countries near by, such as Brunei and Thailand, where they can find work easier and slightly more accepted.

and there are a fair few Indos here, we just tend to confuse them with Malays and such.
Never a vocal community, they just tend to do what they do and get on with their lives.

lol yeah i know u do Rob just saying in general tho im surprised that there's way more chinese than indonesians here, could it be its easier to get a better education in china than it is in indonesia? equalling richer parents who are able to send ova the young-uns

There's actually quite a lot here. The majority seem to be students. Many of them are Chinese Indonesians, who tend to be richer, so they look Chinese rather than what you'd think of as Indonesian. Sometimes you can pick an Indonesian or a Malay, but other times I rely on listening to what they say.

I think around the Glen Waverley area is where the most Indonesian & Malaysian people are concentrated in Melbourne. Perhaps partly because it's very accessible to both Monash (Clayton campus) & Deakin Universities.

Yeah that'd make sense. There's a lot on that side of town. Seems to be a lot living not too far from Hawthorn, for there's a couple of Indonesian restaurants around there, plus two supermarket.
