Why exactly is Gers still in IRON MAIDEN?

I won't read that thread because it's not on this forum. Here's my respeonse to your question. I think he's a good write off for tax purposes for the band. I think he must be secretly related to Rod Smallwood, Bruce or Harris... If it's not either of those two then I'm fucking clueless...

Harris doesn't have the heart to kick him out... afterall he's been in the band longer than Smith

Also not going to read that other thread but I think that Harris really wants him in the band. It can be because he brings an element of visual entertainment to the show. I doubt it is because Harris, Murray or even Dickinson feels sorry for him because if Gers leaves Maiden, he will probably be snapped up by another high profile band, because lets face it, he is good at what he does.

Personally I have always been not a great fan of the three guitar sound noise menagerie of the last three Iron Maiden albums and for that matter was also not too fond of NPFTD and onwards. FOTD was a bit better than it's predecessor but nowhere near the classic Maiden offering such as Powerslave and SIT. The Rock in Rio DVD also sounds very busy compared to the LAD DVD. I like simplicity in my music.

He's there because he's buddies with all the other members and has years of history with them. You know, pretty much the same reason anyone's a member of any functional band in the first place. Band chemistry is not first grade math where you substract everyone you don't personally like and - presto - it's 1984 again. Especially since none of us know the Maiden guys on a personal level (except ElectricWiz :D).

Also, why shouldn't he be in the band? He's written some great songs during his time in Maiden and I can't see getting rid of him would improve anything. In fact, what's there to improve? The band sells out stadiums around the globe and everyone seems happy. The fact that the existence of three guitars has not been utilized to the maximum (if at all) can hardly be blamed on Gers alone. After all it was the inclusion of Adrian that broke the solid guitar duo of Murray/Gers in 1999... ;)

I've posted several comments/complaints about Janick over the last year or two. Nice guy, but damn, he's so sloppy! And the way he runs around is so wincingly horrible! Hell, because of his antics, he's even fallen off the stage....

I like these two the best

My view is that Adrian and Dave need somebody to carry the guitars around :heh:

i hate his playing. all 3 of the new maiden reunion albums blow. x factor was the last great maiden album IMO. i think the title track to the album dance of death must be about gers stage moves

Gers has secret pictures of Harris having sex with farm animals...Harry won't dare kick him out!

Seriously, isn't it the simple fact that Bruce has worked with him before and that they are close pals.

-Bruce ended up returning to Maiden.
-keep Gers around and Bruce happy-so Bruce stays and doesn't leave Maiden again.
-The band knows and its fans have seen the impact of Bruces return, him being happy, sticking around, and the resurgence of Maiden.

Personally, I wish it was just Smith and Murray all along...Gers seems like a good Bloke, but his style, sloppiness and stage antics annoy me.

Right. I think he did a good job on Tattooed Millionaire....

Ah gimme a break. TM was a joke album, something Bruce did to waste some time while playing in Iron Maiden in no way you can compare that album with the great post-Maiden stuff he made. Albums that for sure will would have been crap having Gers instead of Roy Z, Adrian Smith or even Alex Dickson.

To me TM is no representative of Bruce's discography at all, basically apocriphal to me :err: (and I have it and like it nevertheless at its level)

That's just ba-a-a-a-a-a-a-a-ad fellas! I don't think Janick is still in the band because it makes Bruce happy. After all, Smith was on 2 Dickinson albums, and rejoined Maiden with Bruce. I think next time Gers falls off the stage, Harris will pull him aside and say "well mate, (eyes darting around..)the doctor suggested you take about 3-6 years off to recover properly. It's gonna be rough, but somehow we'll find a way to go on without ya'."
