i think it's something to do with the government and in the schools.
scandinavian countries always prided themselves of being up-to-date and very liberal. so they encourage their youth to try out every new, interesting, brilliant form of expression they can come up with, giving them both the means and the time to pursue their interests.
... and for all those who still are not creative enough, well, there's always heavy metal.

Hmmm i agree with rahvin on this, what he said is one of the reasons for sure...
When ppl are told all their lives they should become doctors or lawyers, or at least become "educated" (ie go to uni), it's not exactly easy to seriously get involved in the "entertaining" business for many reasons (i mean not as a proffesion anyway).
