Wintersun - The Way of the Fire (new)

Time is a running joke at this point. The reasons Jari keeps giving for it's delay are retarded... the latest one is that he's waiting for all of his plugins to be 64bit compatible so he can utilize all the extra RAM for softsynths... apparently he doesn't know what bouncing is.

I've read this as well on the Wintermadness.net forum. For some reason when I read it, it seemed like he had a very good reason to need 64-bit plugins. I also remember he did bounce tracks and he had so much tracks that would still eat up his RAM.

I'll search the post, maybe that will clear up some stuff :)

Needless to say, Jari could've be a bit more strategical in the past.

I still call BS/stupidity. If Dimmu Borgir can do In Sorte Diaboli with software synths/orchestra then Jari can do a Wintersun CD. Either he's looking for excuses or he really isn't very audio savvy.

That's a fair point. I think the problem is that Jari wants to do everything himself. When his mac broke down and he needed to wait for money for a new one, the community offered to start a raising fund and he putted it down.

Anyway, in this thread Jari explains why he's having problems with all the bouncing and stuff:

Jari:
"Yes all the plugins need to be 64-bit as well. Cubase 6 was just released and is now 64-bit for OS X, but still waiting for the developers to make the plugins 64-bit. This 4GB RAM limitation has been the worst problem of them all making this album. I can´t wait for the 64-bit bliss!

Right now I have to just use all the workarounds available. Splitting songs into two or three separate projects, freezing/rendering processed tracks, using lots of buses... etc. But it´ll just make this incredibly difficult task even more difficult and time consuming. Wish me luck, I´m gonna need it!
"

Very weird, it's not like his music needs that much CPU power, does it ? Same for the "more than 192 tracks" I read in these links. Also, as he mentions, if he's hitting 4Gb of ram just with the wav and plugins he's using for basic mixing, he's doing something bad or should switch to reaper (since it handles stupidly sliced .wav files with no real CPU or reactivity problem).

Is he some sort of egocentric ? (It's a real question, I don't know wintersun more than from their name) That would explain some "rock star attitude" of wanting the best and thinking you're doing right when you're not.

Considering Jari is an uber-perfectionnist, he is probably also a huge tweaker, so while he is mixing my guess is that he's unfreezing, messing back with tracks, even arrangements and all. He isn't a rich motherfucker and needs better gear than what he's got for his mixing style. It's been way too long for Time to be released, but still, Wintersun being one of my three favourite records ever, I'm willing to wait for it.

edit : holy fuck the solo section is good

Jari did show me few of coming Wintersun Cubase projects and there was approximately 400-500 tracks in those (most of them were rendered into groups)

He has worked mainly with the orchestra, percussion and vocal sections, cause guitars, bass, and drums were ready like 4 years ago :loco:

The stuff sounds fcuking awesome and he is really gonna get it finished maybe in a few years  so please guys stay calm. Just let Jari take his "Time" to do the shit ready.

Holy shit! Awesome:)

I must say that I've also been very, very skeptical about the RAM excuses. I used to really anticipate Time and check for updates once in a while, but nowadays I've just given up. If it gets released I will be ecstatic though, as it'll probably kick my ass :)

It WILL be released. Jari has been working his ass off for many years now, and it's almost finished, so there isn't an option it gets dumped. Ofc Nuclear blast and few other companies will make that thing sure, cause you can just think of how much €€€ (+Time ) has already been spent on that album.

Btw Teemu sold me the acoustic guitar, which was used for all the acoustic stuff on that album (Ibanez AW1500) :kickass: The album has pretty many epic japanese influenced acoustic parts as well.

Don't lose your hopes, you will have some fcuking good epic shit soon!
