with all the drama on the official maiden board

Bah, it just reminds me why I hate metalheads. Fools, the lot of them.
(Except for the people on this board naturally, but you guys already know of your own greatness surely? :) )

They ought to be bloody thanking Sum41 for having the balls to say how much they love Iron Maiden and Judas Priest, especially considering how its not "cool" to do so. God forbid any Sum41 fans hear Iron Maiden and go buy their records. Everyone has to start somewhere.

I just think the fans are angry because bringing Sum 41 on tour with them, doesn't do anything for the metal community per se. People there to see Sum 41, will probably leave after they're finished. That is if they would go to see Sum 41 for however long they will be playing. Sum 41 fans... well the girl fans anyway will just say oh they playing with Iron Maiden, I don't like them, and the guys with the girls will leave too. Introducing no new fans to the genre!

I hope that makes sense, i've been writing this message off and on for the last 10 minutes!

I dont think you gove the Sum41 fans enough credit, they all know how much the band loves Iron Maiden so they will probably stick around to see them, particularly as im sure the guys in Sum41 will tell them to do so when they leave the stage :)

Yeah, I know. It is actually pretty common for a punk fan to like Iron Maiden, I know lots of people who are like that. but im just saying, Im sure fans would rather Iron Maiden take a metal band on tour with them, and then expose that metal band to the Iron Maiden tour goers.

I'm certainly not ratting on Sum 41, I've got their first albums at my house somewhere! I love their metal tunes! I want to hear the ones on the new album, but Im not forking out the money for the album that is only good for 5 minutes for me. But ah well, more power to them for touring with a band they idolize! Im sure we'd all love to be in their shoes!

Seeing these popular bands citing Maiden etc as huge influences always raises the question of why they don't play metal... but I think that even though I'm a huge metal fan, if I was in a band it wouldn't be metal... actually, if I sang professionally then it would probably be of the Frank Sinatra/Dean Martin style, because that suits my vocal range and I love the music.

Not that anyone raised this point, but I felt like saying it anyway.

You know, many of the bands cited as influences to Maiden, as well as a lot of the other "influential" metal bands weren't exactly metal either. They're only influences people. If everyone decided to play the same music as the people a generation before, we'd still be hitting hollow skulls with thighbones.

Although reading back, I think I may have hit rant mode too early. It's only been one post, after all. Please disregard this post and come back when there's more "non-metal being influenced by metal is disgraceful" posts.

Maybe they play the music they do becaus they like it, and it is selling millions of albums

I reckon that's great. You could go on GMA and sing "That's Amore" wearing an Iron Maiden t-shirt. How fucking cool would that be?

I just looked at the dude and laughed, I laughed cos it was obvious he was going to dance to some techno when he got home. People like him are considered normal, how is that normal, listening to a repetative beat for an extended period of time whilst you shaking you body in a standing up epileptic fit.

thats not normal,
