Drumeo has shared a new video along with the following introduction:

“Wolfgang Van Halen joins us in the Drumeo studio to celebrate the incredible legacy of his uncle, Alex Van Halen.

In this video, Wolf revisits iconic moments from Alex’s career—reacting to photos of his over-the-top drum kits, watching legendary drum solo footage, and—for the first time ever on camera—playing through eight of his favorite Van Halen tracks, including “On Fire”, “Panama”, and “Right Now”.

He also shares personal stories about growing up around Van Halen, what it was like being in a band with his dad, Eddie, and Uncle Alex, and why he believes Alex Van Halen is one of the most underrated drummers in rock history.”

Wolfgang performs (with time stamps): “Romeo Delight” (02:12), “Hot For Teacher” (5:20), “Loss Of Control” (06:23), “Sunday Afternoon In The Park” (07:31), “Drop Dead Legs” (09:39), “On Fire” (11:39), “Jump” (15:51), “Panama” (17:32) and “Right Now” (19:56).

Wolfgang Van Halen’s Mammoth performed at Debonair Music Hall in Teaneck, NJ on May 11. The set included a Q&A with Wolfgang, and he explained his band’s name change from Mammoth WVH.

“It’s what we wanted the whole time,” says Van Halen. “It was supposed to be a direct reference to my Dad’s [Eddie Van Halen]… the first band where he was the singer, you know, ’cause I’m playing guitar and I’m singing. I remember asking… I was nervous. I have early demos for the song ‘Mammoth’. It was called ‘Mammoth I’, ’cause it was the first idea I ever wrote that was, like, ‘It’s gonna be for my band Mammoth.’ I think it was in, like, 2013 that I wrote the idea. And I didn’t ask Dad until, like, 2016. I think we were on that last tour, and I was like, ‘Hey, Pop, is that cool if I call my band Mammoth?’ He’s like, ‘Fuck, yeah.’ And I don’t know why I was so nervous to ask him, because, God, he was the most supportive person, other than my mom, in my life.”

Wolfgang added: “Man, is it a fucking tight rope to walk, with the shadow I’m under and the expectations. And it’s, like, I wanna be able to have the opportunity to reference my lineage, but not copy it and just put a flag in it and sit there and play ‘Panama’ for everybody every night. I wanna be able to be my own person, you know.”

Wolfgang Van Halen recently returned with the latest single from the band he masterminds, Mammoth. “The End” is an adrenaline-driven rocker that kicks off with a signature lead guitar riff that has become a fan-favorite element in Wolfgang’s music. The anthemic build of the intro gives way to the driving verse melody with each part carefully created and performed by Van Halen and his returning collaborator Michael “Elvis” Baskette. The chorus is driven by the unforgettable vocal melody as the message of “Take your hand in mine and watch the end with me.”

The song can be streamed/downloaded here.

“I’ve had the tapping idea on the intro for ‘The End’ since before Mammoth. I was able to fit it into this world. It’s still over-the-top and shreddy, but it’s also melodic and controlled. Overall, I was doing some different things on the record, and I knew this was going to be a big step. Once we finished ‘The End,’ it felt really special to me,” explains Wolfgang Van Halen.

To coincide with the single release, Wolfgang and Mammoth have released a music video for “The End” that is one for the history books and something rarely seen in music videos anymore. Wolfgang teamed up with legendary director Robert Rodriguez to do a modern-day interpretation of Rodriguez’s 1996 hit film, From Dusk Till Dawn. The video tells the story of a rock band that is booked to play a show at a dive bar and given an ominous warning from the club owner portrayed by Danny Trejo. Mammoth decides they know better, and things quickly turn dire for the band before a surprising revelation during the final moments tie the complete video lore from the band together. Friends of Mammoth including Slash, Myles Kennedy and Wolfgang’s mother Valerie Bertinelli all show up throughout the short film. Horror effects icon Greg Nicotero offered his talents to the video to create zombies, werewolves and vampires that all bring a deadly end to the attendees of the show.
