World Clock Question

Ok guys, this is a n00b question, but I hear people talk about the World Clock when referring to audio, can anyone tell me what the World Clock does?

Basically: it's a way of making sure everything is in synch in different ways.

so when would one use this?

Like when you have a lot of interfaces running simulatneously. You want the "slaves" to run at the same pace as your "master", so like bits and samplerates, MIDI, etc.
