What do you think....

I say the man defended his family or something. Apparently the italian shit-talked him and his family.

Edit: More precisely, I heard the italian said something concerning his sister being a whore or whatever. Thats still at gossip stage though.

I heard it was a racial slur or something... Zidane clearly lost his head and let his team down, but Materassi (sp?) got what he deserved as far as I can tell...
I hear he's calling Zidane a terrorist now... lol
And there are some crazy vids of him kicking people on youtube (compendium of nasty fouls)
Alas... He still got the golden ball! (Zidane, that is)

zidane will be remembered as one of the greatest soccer player ever, but one with a tragic ending of his career.

....just come back from Rome.....been partying from am to pm and viceversa.....completely drunk and sleepless......been with a million people in the streets.....now sleeping, after comments

I'm totally agree

materazzi got what he deserved - he had been baiting zidane all night , and finally called him in italian (and zidane knows italian) something close to "dirty f**king terrorist" and that set Zidane off - the red card i guess was deserved, but technically the dumbass ref didnt see it with his own eyes - he caught the replay, and went from that. Totally crappy situation. Zidane > Italy imo.

Regardless of what the Italian player said I don't think Zidane's actions were the best. It was pretty shocking to see a player such as Zidane let something as little as a remark get to him. But again it was his last game and a big one at that so emotions must have been high.

i do live in italy and i've seen what happenend... there are a lot of similar episodes every minute if you look at a football match, people that offend you and your family, but if you are an intelligent person you give back an answer of the same level and don't care about it anymore. i think the problem was that the tension was very high and frenchs were really sure to win the cup (and if you don't live in europe you could not understand which was the situation in this two last weeks and which air we have breathed) and at the end of the match when they saw that things weren't going as they hoped they really started to became nervous and frightened. i think this is the reason why he had a greater reaction to those offences. and zidane has played footbal in italy for some years... he already knew each italian player, even materazzi...and this makes the situation more unpleasant.

anyway WE WON THE CUUUUUUP!!!!!!!!

Must've been way cool to be in Rome :D

Yea, one of my most incredible experiences, all that people, everyone partying and singing, they came from the entire nation and also foreign people were there feasting, I saw that also italian community in Canada celebrated a lot :kickass:

My position is half way I mean, if someone would call me in real life a terrorist or would insult my family/dears I would not only give a ram-like beat but also some kicks and punches, but on the other hand Zidane is a man of experience, he had to keep the nerves, he knew Materazzi is a provocateur (he played in italian league) and also that being under the spotlight of the world, you have some kind of responsability, some says that when he got hurt at the shoulder he wanted to be substituted but Domeneque wanted he'd keep on going, and this pissed him a little, add also that Zidane is not new to these things, and you got the scene. Anyway Materazzi was smart son of a beach  he made Zidane to be kicked out so France had a good goal-kicker less and also the only forward player together Henry, who shot at the goal, the image of Zidane leaving the field and not partecipating to the awarding is very sad, he had to think twice at what he had to do being also his last match

i loved that headbutt.

i've heard he was called a terrorist. but the italian player responded to that by saying he doesn't even know what an islamic terrorist is, that he's not cultured enough. wtf? :erk:

Italian should have been eliminated against Australia! God I hate those Italians!! They had at least 5 hands in the box that were not called during the tournament, yet were awarded a penalty on a premeditated dive from their player. More reasons to hate italians? They are always complaining and shiting everyone, faking injuries, diving, giving hits from behind (remember against USA?). I mean with all the talent they have, cause I admit they do, they should act like mens, stay on their feet and try to win honestly with honor for once! I have no respect for a team who benificiated an easy way to glory without really earning it. That is my opinion as a professional (lol of course!).

a friend of mine who is deaf has seen the episode on tv. she can lip-read and she said to me he did not pronunciate the word terrorist. he said something like 'f**k you' and 'that w***e of your sister'. i don't think it is nice to say those things to another human being but you have also to consider the context. italians are very direct and we use expressions like these very often. they have not a strong meaning as they seem to have , it's a sort of stock phrase, you can say it also to a friend or a relative when he makes you angry or as a joke (example a friend tells you something you don't like or you don't want to hear, you can say him ' don't tell it to me, tell it to the s*w of you mother' but you can say it quietly with a smile on your face, nobody gets offended and nobody hits you with his head), you may say it to an unknown person when he runs the stop sign or the traffic light, and everyone in the street who has seen the missing accident starts to laugh for your coloured speech. it is like it belongs to the usages and customs of our country.
that's all
