To be fair i'm not that keen on Axe. Saw him for the second time with Opeth last night in Manchester and he just hasn't got the 'feel' that Lopez had for the band.

It's a real shame that Lopez had to leave because he was a beautiful drummer

That guy as the drummer of Opeth would be like Yngwie Malmsteen in Porcupine Tree. I have a feeling he'd just way over-do it.

Opeth drumming doesn't even need to be fast, it's not like they play tech-death or thrash. All they need is good rhythm and some kind of flair, something I believe Axe will bring to the band. Opeth doesn't need a specific style of drummer since they aren't confined to a specific style so it doesn't matter who the hell they have

remember that this isn't axes material and its so much harder to play with real feeling when its not your work. he wouldnt be as familiar with it as lopez was. just wait til he writes some of his own beats and really gets used to playing lopez's and you'll see he's an absolute quality drummer.
