ok, the stuff i write is more along the lines of heavy thrash. im gonna be joining a death metal band, and im wondering if there is any tips/advice you can give me for writing death metal? just, things to keep in mind and what not.

go out and kill a few people and then fuck thier corpses while thinking about inspirational things to write about.musically listen to alot of carcass and cannibal corpse

First mistake: "I'm going to write a death metal song."

Just trying to help you out with letting your creativity flow. :)

Uh, it ain't hard. Detune your guitars and basses and play fast power chords and palm muted stuff, blast beat the drumset, growl. Do it for 5 or so minutes and you have a song. Repeat 8 - 15 times for an album.

 you dont like death metal, do you?

If you want real inspiration buy the following albums
Death - The Sound of Perseverence, Symbolic, Individual Thought Patterns
Carcass - Heartwork
anything by Arch Enemy, pref. Wages of Sin
Coroner - Mental Vortex
These at a minimum should keep you from being another bland drive a flat note death metal band, and keep your lyrics on subjects less gory (nothing wrong with gory, but it's a stereotype you don;'t want to fall into) and more open

I guess it depends on what Type of Death Metal you'll be playing. It doesn't ussually take much to write lyrics you could decribe a horrible dismembered carcass or write something that sounds like a Spell of sorts. I mean, really, just read some In Flames lyrics, Lyrics don't have to make sense to be good.

... I wasn't being sarcastic.
