WTB: Peavey Triple XXX Head

I've changed my mind, not looking for a Peavey XXX anymore. I've discovered some ways to make the cleans on my 5150 II to shimmer nicely and NOT break up, and it's still my favorite amp ever for high gain stuff, so I will continue using it live despite it being less practical than most modern amps.

The XXX is a great, practical, affordable amp, but I'm trying to save money and I still prefer the high gain tone of a 5150 above all.

No crazy modding required here. Just turn the mids all the way down on the rhythm channel, with bright engaged, bass/treble/resonance/presence up most of the way. Add Line 6 Echo Park delay. Sounds amazing now!

Funny how I remember you doing this same thing once in rehearsal (only without the L6 delay). You had us all convinced it was great then, too (Prisoner of Mind ring a bell???)

I think I remember one rehearsal when you dialed the 5150 to settings close to the HD147, but you're right, the HD147 did sound better.

Perhaps, yeah. Line 6's cleans are hard to beat IMO, they are really nice. One approach I could take for cleans would be what In Flames does - use an A/B box to go to a Pod Pro rackmount direct to the house for cleans. But it's more hassle to hook up, and I'm getting some shimmery, nice cleans from the 5150 II + Echo Park now.

That's two pedal-steps to change from dist. to clean though, right?

If you run an A/B/Y box where you can have both sides running at the same time, it would only be 1 step if you use the 5150II's footswitch. The footswitch has an effects loop on/off switch, so you could simultaneously run the output of the guitar into the front end of the 5150II and into the POD, and then run the POD into the effects return only. By activating the effects loop on the footswitch, you'd get the guitar>POD>power amp>cab signal. Turn of the effects loop, you get the Guitar>Amp>cab signal.

I highly recommend the Radial BigShot ABY...Passive ABY with transformer isolation. No signal bleed and ground, phase and iso switches right on the pedal for perfectly silent operation in any venue.
