Yikes... Holdsworth... fuggiddaboudit.

moon...

no matter how much i listen.. or how much i slow him down, to try and steal an allan lick... it cant be done.. the guy is..

i mean.. if you LOOK AT HIS HEAD.. his actual physical HEAD.. the guy is an alien.

I just did FOH sound for him at the venue I work at .... Chad Wackerman was incredible on drums to ! ... Jimmie Johnson Was incredible on bass also...

Interestingly enough they are all very tech savy guys, Chad had requested no gates or compression on any of his drums, and supplied all his own microphones. Jimmie Johnson Rolled up with a DI and his bass and went strait into the Pa and monitors which was pretty cool. . . He got an excellent tone out of his Alembic bass....

Allen Had a cool setup, He had 2 mesa simulclass 22 calibers for his stereo clean tone. I miced them up with two 57's , I panned them hard left and right... It was really wide and thick sounding!

He had two mesa 2x12's for his lead tone (mono) , that I miced up with an audix i5...A bunch of fx and volume pedals and stuff...

They were super cool dudes, and it was a pleasure working with pro's like them ! I barely had to touch the mix all night... I have the recording if anyone is interested..... hit me a PM.

Not sure exactly what it was , it looked totally custom... it had no headstock but it wasn't a steinberg ( at least i dont think it was) and it definatly wasnt his custom carvin.... It was a natural wood finish.... By the way its easier if you guys just hit me on AIM i can send you the whole show... dawnofadreamx97

dawn - i WANT that show! still available for send? can you PM a direct link for me, or?? I'll do whatever.

Mono - The DeLap, the natural finish he used on his REH vid, right? I've seen several vids of Allan, booties mostly, torrent stuff, and rarely do I see him NOT playing a Carvin.

Dudes and their endorsements.. like Gambale with his Carvin tone navigator blah blah, yet he uses the JMP-1 all the time. Odd how that works, innit?

yes that one.

Yes, the Gambale thing is wierd.

There is a huge thread over at the carvin forum on how he readily admits he doesn't play the carvins live much, since it is easier to carry the headless guitars on planes. Guess he doesn't get first class for private flights much.

Another cool part of that thread is that he got his Synth Axe back that was stolen.

Would be cool to hear him do another disc with it.

every time.

James Murphy.... what is your take on Allan? Is the guy COMPLETELY fucking ALIEN? I mean... WHO phrases like this!? who THINKS like this.....

goddamn.
i'm a major AH fan for many years now, covered a song he did with Tony Williams' Lifetime off their "Believe It" album called "Red Alert" on my debut Shrapnel solo album, "Convergence" back in '96 and had the pleasure of meeting the man in person at NAMM '05.

You know... and curse me for saying this, but I can't help but think of Meshuggah here, both in terms of drumming and some note choices. Course he's a little older than they are.....
