Yngwie J. Malmsteen

There's this saying that I have; "there's the right way, the wrong way and the Yngway."

Oh brother...

Thank you. Of course I'm looking at this relationship with Tim as long term. People don't know this, but Tim is a real sweetheart to work with and he's such a great person.

Let's see what he says the next album. No singer ever last for more than two consecutive records with the Swede.

Nice interview Ruben, thanks for it.

I saw that. Thanks. Regradless of what you think of Malmsteen he gave a great interview. I think Tim will make it for another album and possibly more. He's a "yes man" and if you read the interview that's what Malmsteen requires; a great singer that follows his lead...The fact that Tim has so many outside projects gives him creative fullfillment elsehwere...That's just my thought. The new album sounds fucking great by the way!

Perpetual Flame was a very good album. Looking forward to the new one.

Great interview. You know, whatever you may say about Yngwie, he stays true to his vision and you've got to respect that.

Absolutely !! Yngwie is a dick, and if you called him one to his face, he would probably tell you thank you. It may be Yngwie or the highway, but Malmsteen has had a career lasting 30 years. I haven't bought a release from him in many years, but it may be time to change that, as I like Tim Owens.
As far as YM allowing other musicians to write with him, I also think he is exaggerating. If you listen to Odyssee, it is quite clear that Joe Lynn Turner had more input in the songs than YJM wants to admit.

edit: I forgot to mention.... great interview Brother Rube !!!

Been listening to Yngwie for over 25 years and I don't want him to change his ways. Loved finally seeing him live 2 years ago in Vegas and can't wait for Relentless! Great interview.

Perpetual Flame was a very good album. Looking forward to the new one.

Yeah I revisited a couple of weeks ago and had grown on me definitively, since I'm a Yngwie sucker I'm gonna get the new one as well.

I know it's not a prototypical Yngwie song, but the song "Red Devil" on Perpetual Flame album is just an awesome song for gunning it up the highway.

Listening to Relentless now. Nothing is sticking out but I only just bought it. Could be a grower.

Hmm... Still not doing much for me. Ripper seems not to have much to work with in terms of catchy buildup and catchier choruses. Kinda feels like Unleash the Fury which was also kinda just there but remaining inert. Don't want to say its a disappointment just yet.

Oh fuck!

It's a strange album. Axe to Grind is quite good but there's this disconnected tone to it. Certainly, a bit below standard and if it wasn't released by Yngwie himself then it would be a lot better. Why Yngwie why?!?

Just gave the album a quick gloss over (ignored the instrumentals and quickly skipped songs that weren't doing it for me). Nowhere near as good as Perpetual Flame and the production has gotten even worse. Also, It's annoying hearing amp fuzz when a guitar is supposed to be muted or before it comes in. It's 2010 and we have protools to fix that crap!

It seems like Yngwie took the extra 7 songs or whatever Ripper recorded during the Perpetual Flame sessions and just padded the new CD with 5-6 instrumentals and a few songs with himself singing.

The verdict: not terrible, but will be quickly forgotten in a few weeks. As you said 10thDD, Axe to Grind is quite good, I also liked Blinded and Title of Desire.
