So far I have komplete 8, Damage, Symphonic Orchestra platinum, symphonic choirs + voices of the apocalypse, storm drum 2, and hollywood brass. Play has always worked for me and the East west deals are insane. I got platinum for 400. That's nuts. I think their 50% off deal is still going...

Anyways, I ran across this and it's wicked.

I also use a jv2080 w/ orch card occasionally. It has nice dry evil strings.

right now i only have access to reason, however i think the violins on the NNXT patch sound pretty awesome! cant comment on much else. would love to have everything you listed above but that will have to wait until next year. If you could only have one of the SL's you posted above which would it be?

Definitely symphonic orchestra platinum. It lacks all the modern legato but it has everything to start composing orchestra stuff. Platinum has the close mics to make it usable in a metal mix.

I plan on getting all the Hollywood stuff, much better but very expensive.

VSL has some seriously dry stuff too.

i have the 8dio adagio collection. sounds pretty nice but it needs a lot of tweaking...

Nice, I wish I had some of their stuff.

My favorite subject!

I've got Symphonic Orchestra Gold and Symphonic Choirs + VOTA, been making do with the gold version even though I do would like to have the samples dry when needed. I would have probably taken the 8dio route instead had I not bought these before learning about that company, though. The 8dio stuff is somewhat more playable. You do get to make your own phrases with Symphonic Choirs, for example, but it may need some extra work to make sound right, and I haven't really found myself using the WordBuilder for my own phrases that much. It's still a great concept though, for sure.

Besides those, I have Realivox - The Ladies which I always give a shout out to, given the chance. Really love using it. Other than sung phrases, this is now my go-to for any female solo vocal lines or even detailed choirs. You can hear a piece I made using that here:

I also have Evolve Mutations 1&2, Alicia's Keys, and so on, regarding some smaller ones. Those are all great for inspiration, but the latter gets less use than the beautiful Emotional Piano by Soundiron. I look at 8dio and Soundiron as if they still were one company, and I have LOTS of their mid-range stuff, so if anyone has any questions about some of those, I can speak my mind about them.

If you're looking for convincing solo instruments, check out Embertone. They're relatively new in the business, but their stuff is incredible. I don't have the flagship violin or the cello, but I haven't had more fun playing a sampled trumpet or saxophone than their products, and they're really easy to make sound realistic.

I just got Evolve from heavyocity. It's my favorite so far. I also have Alien Skies and Cyberstorm from Zero-G for the film sound design that I do. Really high quality samples at awesome prices, especially when you pick 'em up on their 60-70% off weekends.

I would love to start investing in the East West Quantum Leap stuff, but I need a more powerful computer first. Cinematic Strings is also amazing for anyone who's looking to get kick-ass string ensembles in their songs or even on their own.
