I'm generally not into thrash, but these albums do it for me:

Testament - The Gathering

Nevermore - The Politics of Ecstasy

The Haunted Made Me Do It

This what I would call ideal thrash. I know Nevermore and The Haunted aren't thrash bands per se, but those albums have the core elements of thrash. They're a lot better than anything that came out in the thrash heyday (the 80's,) IMO.

so.........answer the question..........or risk facing the wrath of midget named dave with severe gingivitis, trained in the master art of sharp pointy aluminum rod wielding. idle threats are fun. . .

Forbidden - the first 3, but especially "Twisted Into Form"
Testament - the first 4
Defiance - "Void Terra Firma" and "Beyond Recognition"
Sadus - all but the first one
Megadeth - the first 4
Anthrax - most of 'em
Antithesis - both
Vio-Lence - "Oppressing the Masses"
Sacred Reich - the first 3
Flotsam and Jetsam - the first 3 (weren't really thrash after that, but I still like 'em a lot)
Metallica - through AJFA (if you consider them thrash, which is debatable)
Pantera - "Cowboys From Hell"

alright, I could keep going but I'm getting tired. That covers a lot of the greats.

Nevermore - The Politics of Ecstasy

THE FIRST SONG OF IT, IS A STRONG THRASH NUMBER, IS IT OLD SCHOOL, ONLY THE GUYS WILL TELL....

"Ascension to Destiny"

BUT MY FAVOUITES ARE ANYTHING BY EARLY KREATOR
OR
1987--Schizophrenia = sepultra

only the jimbo guy has picked thrash albums in real...

I agree with him but he has forgoten some really great albums :

Metallica - Master of Puppets (one of the best albums ever)
Slayer - Reigh in blood/seasons in the Abyss/South in Heaven
Kreator - Coma of Souls/Extreme Aggression (Mille is a God)
Annihilator - first 2 albums
Sodom - first 2 albums and Code Red
Destruction (i don't like them but they are really important)
Overkill - most of their early stuff!
Coroner - Mental Vortex (prog thrash - Gods too)
The Haunted - The Haunted!

I'm sure i'm forgeting other albums too...
The above are meant to be added to jimbo's list...

SLAYER - Reign In Blood
SLAYER - Seasons In The Abyss
SLAYER - God Hates Us All
METALLICA - ...Master Of Puppets
SADUS - Swallowed In Black
TESTAMENT - The Gathering
ANNIHILATOR - Alice In Hell
SEPULTURA - Arise
KREATOR - Coma Of Souls
EXODUS - Bonded By Blood
SODOM - Agent Orange
FORBIDDEN - Forbidden Evil

My pics would be;
Forbidden-Distortion

Vio-lence-Opressing the Masses
Heathen-Breaking the silence
Testament- the first 3-4
Anthrax-the first 3-4
Slayer-Reign in blood

It's a funny thing... I found most thrash overrated until my latter days. Seriously, all the albums that get people excited bored the shit out of me, until recently. Here's my shit, mock freely.

Death Angel- Episode III
Anthrax- Among the Living
Vio-lence- Opressing the Masses
Destruction- pretty much everything with Schmier
Mayhem- Deathcrush
Possessed- Seven Churches
Celtic Frost- Morbid Tales
Slayer- Reign In Blood
Exodus- Bonded By Blood
The Haunted- S/T
Megadeth- Peace Sells... but Who's Buying?

I'm not a huge thrash fan, but this shit rocks.

Metal rules.

Jimbo *very drunk*

metallica - master of puppets ,ride the lightning(master of puppets is best!!!!)
megadeth -rust in peace
kreator - extreme agression
slayer - seasons in the abyss, reign in blood
overkill - from the underground and below

Megadeth - Rust in Peace is still the best and most complex thrash i've heard, and Peace Sells is just a little bit behind.

Testament The Legacy bad production though, still kicks ass

Carnal Forge is pretty fucking good too, i guess they are more melodic death though

1. Megadeth - All up until Cowntdown
2. Slayer - All
3. Invocator - Excursion Demise
4. Testament - All except Demonic
5. Kreator - All up to Coma of Souls
6. Susperia - Predominance
7. Death Angel - The Ultra Violence

These aren't exactly the TOP albums, but a few I consider to be the god albums of thrash... and they're not in any order.

Vendetta - Go And Live... Stay And Die!
Slayer - Seasons In The Abyss
Overkill - The Years Of Decay
Sodom - Persecution Mania
Kreator - Coma Of Souls
Metal Church - The Dark
Destruction - Release From Agony
Testament - Practice What You Preach
Megadeth - So Far, So Good... So What!
The Haunted - The Haunted Made Me Do It

Rip is awesome... but it isn't thrash. It's heavy-metal, maybe even classable as a little bit proggy, like ...And Justice For All.

Megadeth and Metallica were thrash bands, but neither RIP or AJFA are thrash records, they are heavier and more intelligent than thrash.
