Hey guys, just to share :
I picked up an Ei tube to try it in the 5150's V1 slot. It's not the "Elite Gold" stamped one but the standard ECC83 tube. I tried several other tubes in there, including :
- Electro Harmonix
- Tung Sol
- JJ
- Sovtek LPS
- Groove Tubes
...
Ei sounds amazing, really smooth but not muddy at all, clear and sharp, and does not suck the amp character at all. Loved it !
I also dig the EH which is a bit brighter and harsher, IMO it's the original 5150 sound.
JJ were a bit muddy.
Tung Sol was too harsh and fizzy, didn't like it.
...
If you didn't try an Ei tube in V1, please do it, you won't regret![Headbang :headbang: :headbang:](/data/assets/smilies/headbang.gif)
Forgot to mention that I have SED "Winged C" tubes in the power amp. Amazing tubes !!
