hey i listened to blood by to mera on the metal hammer dvd at crimbo its asome :headbang: but could it be one of those bands that become mainstream like e.g. evernesance?

yeh i dont like it when bands become mainstream to-mera just seems to be one of those bands that will, although iv herd 2 songs by them

I seriously doubt it! Our music's a little bit too complicated for general tastes, especially the new stuff we're working on now. 23/16 signatures don't tend to go down well with most folks :)

Of course if we were to become successful on our own terms then that would be great, but we're not going to go out of our way to write anything "radio friendly" just for the sake of it. There's plenty of other bands following that route but it's not for us.

Cheers

Seriously, what does it matter? You can't dig a band if it becomes popular? And still you have a COB avatar? Please don't take this the wrong way, i don't mean to be offensive even if i might come across that way, i'm genuinly curious. Nirvana was definetly mainstream, but their albums still had a huge "fuck you" additude to them, and very questionable lyrics. Nightwish is definetly mainstream (at least in Finland they are the biggest metal band ever) but their compositions and lyrics are usually not so brainless as the mainstream tends to be. COB on the other hand have had huge difficulties writing a decent song after the first two albums, i actually like the first two very much. I have to make clear that i'm not talking about preferences or taster, but the quality of the music. They are recycling old ideas and the E-D-C-D chord progressions with the trademark bodom lead on top is repeated over and over again. I don't understand why that is, is Laiho so drunk all the time he can't remember what he had put in the previous song?

Good Attitude. The music is very complicated and that's why I love it. It may not be for everyone but everyone is different. Transcendental is a fantastic album.

PS- Becoming mainstream seems to upset lots of people and thats something I've never truly understood. Wouldn't the fans love to see their favorite band succeed? Sometimes becoming more popular means more shows and more touring, which is great for those who have never had a chance to see a band live. I personally could care less if any band (including To-mera) were to become mainstream and have more appeal to the majority. It's about the music, not the image, and if I like a band and enjoy their music, I will continue to support them no matter how big they get.

yeh surpose your right and sorry! Mazah your right about the bodom thing but thats what i love about them. sorry i think you missunder stood what i was saying i ment like e.g (your gonna laugh) my chem i loved them but then they went and did black parade and it is totally different you can see they sold out to mainstream. the only resaon why i dont like stuff that becomes main stream is because go to a school in dover, england were everyone is a chav only apart from like ten metalers and i get called shit all day like emo,you listen to shit music ect. so when a band becomes mainstream they asume that band with me and go do you like mcr and that shit all fucking day not even knowing they had brought two other albums out. also i have liked dragonforce since the vally of the dammed and my step brother is all obsed by them not knowing jak about them apart from one abums called inhuman rampage. What im trying to say is i love a band for its music not because its popular and this is what ,where i live mainstream music creates. Not a love for a band but the like thats its popular and people want to be cool.
I would like to say to-mera i love your work and i willl be going down to buy Transcendental do you recon i can buy it in hmv or virgin mega-stores

I'm sorry for getting a bit provo there. You shouldn't worry about them, it's the attitude that counts, not the popularity, not even the music really as far as the whole mainstream/underground thing. There are good things also in the mainstream, they are just surrounded with a whole bunch of shite.

PS. Learn how to use dots and commas, it's really hard to read you sometimes :)

To-Mera didn't sound to me like the sort of band that would go mainstream unless they purposefully did anything that would make them popular.

I heard Phantoms on a cd i got with last month's Metal Hammer, that song f**kin' owns.

I don't hate Evanescence, but if you listen to some of the stuff off Origin, their first album, and then compare it with the stuff from Fallen and The Open Door, you can see that they have deliberately done something for the mainstream.

I agree with rainmaker_2413, I wouldn't hate any band I like if they became mainstream, as long as they kept recording albums that I liked. I know it was a bit before my time, but Metallica could be an example. They went mainstream on the Justice For All album, but they still sounded good.

I don't see To-Mera going "mainstream" anytime soon, as Lee said himself, the stuff they write is simply too technical and complicated for the avarage listener. Unless, the jazz audience should suddenly embrace them.

Personally, I like the band the way they are. No commercialisms like (later) Nightwish, Within Temptation or any prog/goth/symfo band that used to be heavy but watered down their material down for airplay & a bigger audience.

23/16 signatures
Man, I really need to study some music theory. Transcendental is already way above my head technically and now you guys are pulling this out? I can't even imagine what that sounds like (except for that it sounds like it'll be pretty danged fast). Is there any other group/musician that's done that before?

How exactly did they go mainstream with Justice? Unless you're talking about them making a video?

I might ask the same question =) I consider Justice their most twisted album. The sounds are maybe a bit better, even if lacking bass and space. The Black Album then again... But it's still a very good album. Nevermind... that's way off-topic.
