Hi I'm Alvin. I'm one of the true metalheads around these parts. There isn't much activity as far as metal goes in the Philippines. Most people listen to the usual mainstream pop shit. As for a rock scene, there's such a thing but its mainly alternative bands. There's a rap metal scene populated by Korn wannabes and followed by kids who think metal started with Korn etc.

There are some underground metal gigs with death and black metal bands but they're few and far between. The real metal scene here is a small circle of metalheads who sell and trade metal releases with one another.

Tell me about your scene in the other part of the SEA region. I know it's much better in Malaysia and Thailand where well-known metal bands play gigs at.

Oh btw, DEATH ANGEL RULES!

I haven't been actively going to the underground gigs as much as before. But I can assure you that the Philippine metal scene/underground scene was more active in the early to mid '90s. We had a lot of death metal bands like KNK, Scum, Rumble Belly, Deifago, Death After Birth who played gigs and came up with independently-released albums. On the mainstream side of things, Sky Church was the only real metal band who ever released a major-lable funded CD. Sadly, that band has shifted directions and is now more of a straight-edge hardcore band. There are a number of people who maintain fanzines. If you've been reading the Shorts portion of Metal Maniacs, you'd notice the regularity of letter senders from Davao which is in the Southern Philippines. I haven't been there so its very promising to think that a metal scene maybe brewing there.

hail yeah,mr alvin...
i'm asking about metal death/grind scene there....i was informed that one of the philipines's grind death metal(i'm also forgot its name) already release their new LP.........so,i want to know, how does metal grind/death be??

Hail Brother's! hey Alvin it's nice to see around here. i'm from the philippines too, but i'm now in california. and yeah, there were a lot of great bands before like KNK, Death after Birth, Dethrone, Backdraft, Dahong Palay, Rumblebelly and alot of other bands. because of this one radio station (LA 105) a lot of underground metal bands became popular(not mainstream popular). they've released a couple of compilation albums, did a lot of shows, and had a lot of airplay in that station. and after the demise of that station(turned into a hip-hop/top 40 staion) all these bands faded away. Hey Alvin whatever happened to those bands?

hail...how about you??have you seen any brutal eath metal band there??

I really have no idea what happened to those bands. Gigs are few and far between (I'm not counting gigs by mainstream rock and crap rap rock bands, there's a lot of those). The last time I saw a gig was last year and they were mostly new bands who played covers. Sad to say, there's not much of a metal scene in the Philippines these days.

..BUT i think, now they need a revolution to improved your metal scene there,so that you will have a same big scene like malaysia and indonesia......

Hey just joining in. I'm originally from the Phils but now live in Europe. Are you by chance the Alvin who used to sing in Rumblebelly? I think his name was Alvin Baez, I remember trying to go to every metal concert where that band played. Man, there used to be of metal fests in Manila. There was also another local metal band called Backdraft--what happened to them?

to goregoat!!!

kabaong ni kamatayan is alive and well as well as other metal bands that have "disappeared" since the decline of the scene.that includes dahong palay, death after birth, barang, deceased and many others. pls visit http://deadboy.4mg.com the webmaster said that they will post contact info., pictures or sumthing, etc.
to techmetal: rumblebelly would be performing this may 18-19 but i do not know if it would be with the original lineup.
