At 3:30 there's a tech blow drying some toms.

Does this work?

hair dryer pitch shifted and ran through a vst amp sim sounds like good drone to me
yeaaaaaaaaaaahh

heard of people using a heat gun alright after a few takes- lossen the head then heat it while bringing it back up to pitch slowly. Keeps the skin fresh and sounding alive for longer- gets rid of dents and stuff. kinda similar to boiling your guitar strings

I'm sure it has to do with seating the tom heads properly, as well as allowing the heads to expand and contract once or twice before you play so they have some elasticity (to mimic the amount play wear-and-tear normally experienced).
