Losing interest in DT for surprising reason

    > There's "limited first edition" version, certain countries get certain songs while others don't, you can get some tracks only online, there are tour editions of some albums, what? This isn't the band's choice or decision, it's the record label's. Almost every band has to do these special...

New album ENDTIME SIGNALS, out August 16th!

It's a solid release, I'm quite pleased. A bit like Moment but with some faster/heavier elements and also more emotional—"One of Us Is Gone" is a tribute to Fredrik Johansson and utilizes some of music he wrote for Dark Tranquillity after he stopped playing with them before his recent death.

Niklas Sundin officially leaves Dark Tranquillity

I figured it was likely Sundin would leave after the hiatus but it's still a bit jarring; the end of an era really. I liked the way the music evolved after Martin Henriksson's departure (and I preferred the band's sound when Henriksson was still a bassist). He will be missed. I'm re-upping this...

    Character, WIDE cover art, where?

Email/Facebook Sundin, I think he drew it. He probably has the original file somewhere.

Dark Tranquillity - Live at Summer Breeze 2017 (Johan Reinholdz and Christopher Amott on Guitars)

Niklas Sundin is apparently taking a break from touring to spend time with his kid. When I first saw this footage I was shocked that I didn't recognize either the guitarists or the bassist.

    Atoma

Co-sign! Been listening to the album almost non-stop since it dropped. Easily their best work since Fiction. A lot of dynamism, ideas, and energy.

    Martin Henriksson leaves Dark Tranquillity

Since his heart wasn't in it anymore, I'm glad he's leaving the band. I wonder how many other musicians in solid, established bands would have to integrity to do this? Since Johansson left the band Henriksson's influence on the songwriting has been pretty overwhelming so we may get a new phase...

New DARK TRANQUILLITY Will Be Fast And Sound Like The Band's Old Material

I'm cautiously optimistic. I just couldn't stomach the last two albums and as much as I love The Gallery and The Mind's I, I'd hate to think that Dark Tranquillity has gotten to the point where everything they produce from now on gets categorized as "like old DT" or "like new DT". Also, I'm...

    2013: CONSTRUCT

I don't mind rehashing of themes (the range of human experience in a given historical context is actually rather limited in terms of possibilities) but covering the same themes in almost the same words is a little different. The overprocessing is also something that is inherent in the digital...

The only song I dug was None Becoming with its grand, melancholy, and tragic feel. The album was better than We Are the Void but I was a little disappointed to hear the line "apathetic to this life" on the track Apathetic -- we covered that in "Lost to Apathy" some years ago. My main...

A little darker, a little deeper..

Gather 'round the campfire kiddies, it's time for a story from old Grandpa... The year was 1997 and metalheads were still trading cassette tapes of their favorite hopelessly obscure bands (if you've ever tried to mail a CD internationally, you'll know why this format persisted into the CD era)...

Your thoughts on the Martin Henriksson takeover

Thanks. :) In a parallel universe where Johansson didn't leave, a similar thing might have happened with DT's sound settling into a comfortable space rather than continually shifting with every release except instead of Henriksson driving that process it would be a more collective process...

    2013: CONSTRUCT

Interesting way of putting it. In my experience with DT, every album blew me out of the water and amazed me on first listen. Subsequent listens were required to digest the phenomenal-ness and depth of each track. There are bands that I like that were "growers," but DT was and is not one of them.

10 days between songs 1 and 2 and 14 days between songs 2 and 3. I don't remember hearing tracks from Fiction or any other album coming out that rapidly.
