I've also heard of ducking the bass with the kick drum or ducking the vocals with the snare...Anybody do either of those on a regular basis? I've tried the snare thing and can't really hear it unless its extreme but my ears aren't that experienced.

The more I listen to the mixes of bands discussed here it seems like the vocals are the compressing the guitars, though its sort of hard to hear with everything being so much compressed already. Do you compress only certain frequencies of the guitars?

I think you might be right, it sounds like that tone is all in the bass.

May be a dumb question but are you talking about the rhythm guitar or that chorus-ey lead guitar?

Forgive my ignorance but by "double tracking" do you mean there is one rhythm guitar track in each channel? And "quad" would mean two rhythm guitar tracks in each channel?

For me it sounds heavier but a little muddy, even when the parts are both played well. Do you mix the second track in lower? Pan it different?

So how do you handle the payment? Song by song? Half up front? It seems like bands might take advantage of the fact that you're someone they don't ever meet face to face. Plus musicians are slackers:]
