just a thought.(maybe a lot more than you care to hear but here goes)... the sense of violation and indignation that hits us when others tell us what to do, think etc. comes from us mistakenly viewing this as a matter of "rights." it's akin to having very rigid, absolutistic...

with so many record industry types there in NYC, you *must* be able to find some advances in used record stores.... i know the bleeker bobs here sells some used stuff. the big chains won't handle advances or promos (technically its illegal as in "this copy is not for sale" but apparently...

i live in LA and thru almost constant trolling of used record stores i sometimes come upon advance copies of CD's that record industry types have already sold back..... BIOHAZARD, MACHINE HEAD, the new WILL HAVEN... it's awesome!! (of course my wife just rolls her eyes when i come running...

hey, dill... yeah i do like Charger... i think maybe you're talking about MATTER? they're fronted by Dom Lawson who writes for Kerrang but I've yet to track down their demo called "Blackleg" -- i've never really explored the katatonia/opeths of the world only because the dreamier/wispier...

I think the immediate "future" (and maybe this is only because it's what's caught my attention lately) are the sludgier, groovier, a lot of time more abrasive bands... slower, harsher, head-banging as opposed to air-guitaring... some of them are stoner-ish, some of them Southern...

i think it's good (although quite frankly my criteria is that is have only 4-5 songs that are worthwhile) it's very bouncy-- a couple really hip-hop influenced songs but they rock too -- wellproduced -- good samples -- my least favorite albums have been mateo leo and no holds barred -- this one...
