My first "rate my mix" thread.

That's the impression that I got too. The mix originally had a lot of mids happening which is why the dude who mastered it scooped it so much. The guitars were a lot more up front. I also experimented with stereo imaging in the guitars and overheads in this mix. It definitely helped as...

My first "rate my mix" thread.

Yo guys, So I just got the master back for one of the bands I just finished recording. IMO I feel as if the guitars could have been a little more aggressive. The master did tame some of harsh high frequency stuff goin on in the guitars, but I feel they may be a little too "nice" now. What's...

    Kick drum "tightness"

Hey man, one quick fix I've always used to reduce the "boominess" in a kick and give it a "tighter" sound is to just throw a blanket inside the kick slightly resting on the front head. It really cuts down on the resonant tones. But don't pack it too much, it'll kill the entire sound of the kick...

Looking for a Four Channel Mic Pre...

The Brent Averill's are super nice! That might be the way to go. I'd love to get a chance to sit down and A/B the vintech's and the BA's to hear any differences. I actually had this same "four channel" dillema about a year ago and was going to go with the 473. But someone had told me that the...

Looking for a Four Channel Mic Pre...

Hey! thanks a lot guys. oh, yeah I've been hearing a lot of great things about the api preamps. I'm leaning toward those as a choice as of right now. The ViPre is amazing man, almost anything you put through it sounds great. The ISA sounds great too, but contains a completely different...

Looking for a Four Channel Mic Pre...

Hey guys! SO, I've been looking into investing into a super nice four channel mic pre. I've been looking at a whole bunch of different pres from different companies, and I've been curious as to which route I should go: A four channel mic pre, or two dual channel mic pres. This pre is going to be...

Acoustic Drums for Metal: A Guide

Shure Beta 98's are also another great choice on tom's. I've never had a chance to A/B them with either of those two mic's. Also, the beta 98's are also a bit cheaper then the sennheiser's, yet the sound quality doesn't suffer for the difference!
