    Reaper is being funny

-1 for automation :( Copying it into another track does nothing at all. The stupid thing keeps playing even if I f***in mute it oO When I solo the track I hear nothing though! I'm going mental over this!

    Reaper is being funny

Hope you can help me here! I recorded some stuff in Reaper. I rendered the bass track to WAV after adding some effects (ampsim and reverb). Now I cannot control the volume of the track anymore. No matter what I do with the sliders, the volume stays the same. Booming that is. Any ideas what...

...and you thought Attack Attack was shit?

oO They are clearly taking the piss and should be applauded :)

    Double tracking guitars TOO tight?

Steve Vai's rhythm tracks are so freakin tight that it makes you think it might be one guitar mono quite frequently. His tone definitely contributes to this, but dammit! Listen to Skyscraper. IMO that's the most over-the-top tight double tracking ever... kinda defeats the purpose. I can...

So you want a tight mix?

I've just been listening to some good french electro stuff. Of course you get perfect beats and excessice production with that. Constructed from scratch. And that is brilliant. It's punchy as hell, it grooves... Of course it's a matter of personal taste, but I think Metal (or Rock especially)...

    Cool Nordström Interview

Whatever. Tell me that again in 5 years. I shall have a good laugh. Wow! YOU got very quick ears! What do you reckon how many listens Joe Average needs to realise that? A thousand? See above. Tough shit, baby. I know. But it's got precious little to do with me. It's called "the market"...

    Cool Nordström Interview

My point is that people wanna hear songs, not production. But thanks for clarifying that this old stuff wasn't recorded in a bedroom. Still, you can get a close to pro sound out of a bedroom studio. And the few percent it comes short will not be missed by most people. ...untrained ears. Funny...

    Cool Nordström Interview

Of course do shrinking budgets hurt the musician, but the culprit there is clearly illegal downloads. So especially in that context, the opportunity to produce your own music for small money in proper quality is great! You can't deny this IS more power to the musician. ^^ Hate to admit...

    Cool Nordström Interview

I don't wanna be an asshole her, but to be honest: I think the differences between a good bedroom production and a professional one are so tiny meanwhile, that untrained ears don't recognize it. We are all used to a certain standard of sound meanwhile, but ask any average (I'm not talking...

Dave Lombardo & the new Slayer

There are some really strong songs on this one and I even appreciate the guitar sound. Just good to hear something fresh once in a while. So I end up turning the music up a notch and then I start wondering how that assclown Fidelman still gets any business. Death Magnetic all over again. Fingers...

    Tape saturation vs. Exciter

Hi! Just been thinkin' about tape saturation and sonic exciters. So... both happen to add harmonic content to your recording. Am I right in supposing that the overall effect of both are pretty much the same then? Especially considering plug-ins: Do you use both together in a mix or is it...

    Big pick comparison

I remember trying the Jazz III for the first time. Playing leads two times faster in an instant felt pretty mindblowing :) On the downside they just feel absolutely aweful and inappropriate to me when playing just about every style of rythm. Been a purple toltex user ever since.

Do different tubes really change the tonality of an amp...

If you're really keen on finding out, you might wanna toy around with the Revalver III demo where you have the possibility to change the tubes/tube characteristics in the amp simulations. Some changes make for pretty audible differences in tone. I replaced the tubes (el34) in my old JCM 800 once...

Pitch shifting guitars big time. Yes or no?

What would be your pitchshifter of choice then? On second listen I'm not all that happy with the in-built Reaper one. :ill:

Pitch shifting guitars big time. Yes or no?

Big general question: is it "allowed" to pitch shift the guitars in a song by one full tone? I got this little soft song with DI tracks send through an ampsim (Nebula's Bassman program which puts anything else I've ever heard from an ampsim to shame BTW). Turns out I (<- hack) can't sing to...
