Dialing in an Amp for Metal Tone

So true, it's supposed to be "know your amp, cab and every single speaker is most important" actually. The differences can be really big from time to time. Besides that, I start from 10 / 12 / 12 / 2 (bass, mids, highs, presence - o'clock) most of the time without any effects like a TS and...

    Pick attack on ampsim VSTs

Hey guys, thanks for all the great input, I'm using a hardware OD 808 and tried adding the TSE 808 as well, no success. I will try the LeXTAC and a transient designer in my signal chain though, because I mainly used the LeGion amp by now. Thanks again, Downi

ANNOUNCING Charles J's new, fully multisampled "GRISLY GALLOWS KIT"

Hey Tony, the Grisly Gallows pack includes several velocities in several layers. So not only hard hits. I'm just back from testing them on a few different tracks and they are worth every single cent (and more). The rooms are awesome, include a nice variety and are able to change the feel of...

    Pick attack on ampsim VSTs

Hey there, being used to reamping through real amps and cabs, I'm fairly new to the virtual-ampsim-game. I get some decent sounds which I use for demo-stuff or quick roughmixes most of the time. But there's one thing I can't achieve: some percussive pick attack. Is there any way / trick...

I'm in as soon as I'm home from work... no brainer, as said above.

Noisegate in ampsim signal chain (me vs. noise)

Hi Terminus, thanks again for your input! After 8 years of touring as a death metal guitar player I'm pretty familiar with the typical noise floor, as I am with recording real amps. The one going on on my ampsims has been totally different though. No "shhh", more of a pissed-off R2-unit in...

Noisegate in ampsim signal chain (me vs. noise)

top-notch! Terminus, so at least I am not alone with that digital noise? At first I thought something could be wrong with my Hi-Z in or somewhere else in my signal chain, but after unplugging the guitar and monitoring an empty audiotrack with just the inserts and the plugins still...

Noisegate in ampsim signal chain (me vs. noise)

Dear fellow knobtwisters, when using VST-ampsims I'm really struggling with digital noise, esp. when I use somethin like the TSE 808 to boost the signal. The more gain, the more noise. So where do you guys put a noisegate in your signalchain? In front of the other plugins right on the raw...

    Mix Critique/Feedback

Hey there, any more info on how you tracked the whole thing? Did you only track one guitar? If not, pan those guitars on 100/100 stereo, if you already did (I don't hope so), use EQ to get a wider stereo-field. Your snare got a wider stereosound then your guitars do. Which amp-sim did you use...

    Understanding mastering

Is this everything you're doing in the master-stage? If that's the case, you really should check your levels while mixing. Is your mix clipping the whole time? -2 db gain is close to nothing in terms of the ongoing loudness-war. Did you ever try to get about 6db headroom in your mix? If not...

    A few recording tips please?

Concerning the bass: It sounds good when it sounds good. To your vocal-issue: First of all, compress you vocals until they're on the same volume - always. If they are too loud or to low in some parts afterwards, use your DAWs automation. When applying reverb, use a send effect, compress the...

Is anyone intrested mixing metalcore?(high quality raw tracks + vocals)

Phew, you got some serious timing issues going on there. Did you track it to a DAWs grid? Besides the sluggish intro the bass is pretty much having its own party without nailing the bassdrum in many spots (which would have been its job). One of the most obvious parts is 1:00 in your youtube-video.

New Hardcore/Metalcore Track (might upload files for mixing practice)

Good job! The vocals are a bit too far away for my taste, but the instruments sound great. Anyway: +10 on raw tracks!

    First Attempt(s)

lol, I thought my headphones made it sound like everything was mono. Never will judge anything on them again and shouldn't have done this one time.
