Infinite Spectrum's sophomore is quite enjoyable. I haven't found it as awesome as people seem to have, but it is quite enjoyable to listen. (I liked the vocalist a lot, has a great tone and especially his lower register is very impressive.) There are really awesome parts in it, but overall it...
The year is quite new, so there are not any albums that I'm gonna suggest so far. I'm quite excited to hear Dissona - Paleopneumatic and Rhapsody of Fire - Into the Legend. (They are soon to be released, in a couple of days.) Both seem very promising, judging from the songs that they've shared...
My favourites of this year so far (in no particular order) are:
Zierler - Esc
Kamelot - Haven
Vanden Plas - Chronicles of the Immortals - Netherworld II
Ghost Ship Octavius - Ghost Ship Octavius
Symphony X - Underworld
Arcturus - Arcturian
Arcane - Known/Learned
Hopefully I'll be able to make...
Vocals - Andy Kuntz from Vanden Plas. Although is not my favourite vocalist, his voice would fit to such a line-up that would make some melodic, technical and dark metal.)
Guitars - Michael Romeo - He is both my favourite guitarist, and I think he also would fit perfect to this group musically)...
Zierler - Esc is out now. Finn Zierler did an awesome job together with some other incredible musicians, as always. The only difference is that, this album includes far less "easy listening" parts. Quite sophisticated stuff, requires high concentration while listening.
I love Circle, just as I love Tuonela. They are "one of a kind" albums for me. Under the Red Cloud is very good, especially it gets better after the 3'rd song. I would say my favourite Joutsen era album of theirs is Circle, closely followed by Silent Waters and Eclipse. All in all, Amorphis...
Michael Romeo is my favourite metal guitarist, so I like or love almost all of his solos. My favourite SX guitar solos (the ones that initially popped into my mind) are on Egypt, Sea of Lies and The Edge of Forever.
The worst is not "their band" thing, it is that "the small child SX has become naughty, and we, as supreme adults, should show them how to be nice again, and hope that one day it'll turn back to the 'glorious days of nostalgia' again" attitude. At least I got a lot of from this "parental...
BTW, I wouldn't say no to a setlist that include 4-5 songs from Underworld. Actually I need some more time to fully digest it in order to fit some of its songs in such lists.
Nice thread.
I've given this about 5 minutes of thought and checked the endings and beginnings of the songs, so that the setlist would flow great. (It may also sound cool in a studio versions playlist,) Here's my dream setlist.
1- Overture to be linked to Iconoclast.
2-In the Dragon's Den
3-...
The "aaaaaa x3, The Legend never dies" part sometimes feels a little incomplete, but the chorus of the song is not inferior to Evolution IMO. Haken and Leprous are VERY different from SX, so even if they (SX) could be able to write such choruses, I'm pretty sure that they wouldn't bother...
