Looking for impending Doom style tones (drums/guitar)

Hey all, quick introduction. My name is Elmo Arteaga and I work at Lambesis Studios with Daniel Castleman (Impending Doom, Carnifex, As I Lay Dying). I personally asked Daniel a bunch of questions based off the Impending Doom albums he's done because I aboslutely LOVE the quality of his...

COLOSSAL from CA (modern Beatdown Metal)

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2143256/Colossal/Abomination.mp3 I had the opportunity to work with some AMAZING gear for this track: API 3124+, Vintech 4073, True Systems, Neumann, Aurora, ADAM, etc. The guitar tone was a 5150 running through a Mesa Recto OS cab, with a 421 and 57 about two...

MIX + MASTER Hooky chorus, riffy verses, primarily singing. Oceans from San Diego.

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2143256/Oceans/Burn%20master.mp3 My newest version of Oceans' song, Burn. This is mixed and mastered. Constantly trying new ideas for guitar tone, I think I'm getting to a point where I'm happy with my guitar tone. I can't tell. PLEASE... Any constructive criticism...

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2143256/John%20T%20sample%20master.mp3 This is a remix of a song i've uploaded before. i'm feeling a lot more confident in my guitar tone. any criticism is welcome :] mastering is a bit pumping, but i feel it gives a slight amount of movement in the track? think Every...

Another Killswitchy song but again, I think I may have passed my mixing plateau! :D

This is my band Oceans' first single (self-titled, at that). there are scratch vocals, for a music video we shot a few days ago, on the track. I also had a new thought process with guitar tone, used a real snare, and all sabian cymbals except 9.5" zilbell my guitars are getting better! tell...

Saosin/Of Machines/Circa Survive with a more modern feel! (instrumental mix)

hey guys, check out my newest mix! the band is a local band from Albuquerque, New Mexico. They're recording 4 songs with me right now, and i'm trying a few new techniques for guitars. Running direct into an ART Pro MPA ii then my FX chain looks like this: TSS > Poulin Lecto > Reagate > Recabinet...

Melodic Emotional Hardcore band from San Diego, CA

http://dl.dropbox.com/u/2143256/JJ_1.mp3 Tell me what you all think of the mix! Any criticism is welcome. I feel lacking in the guitar tone. I can never get it as full as I want it to be. I have a feeling that it could be the Ampsim I'm using, and if it is, can someone please point me towards...

Ran into trouble today - Tube Condenser Mic on vocals

what preamp are you using? because I've had that problem before as well and I found that it's the way my preamp was set. I can't say this for all preamps, only some lower-end ART and Behringer tube pre's, but if you have more mic GAIN, and less OUTPUT that awkward waveform goes away and the...

Newer Mix; No killswitch this time xD

thanks, everyone, for the kind words! i think the clipping that you all are hearing is the bass track i have. I ran the bass out to a send that had an eq hipassing at around 500 and lowpassing at like 4k. I heavily distorted that to try to bring out the fret noise. i guess it was a bit too much...

Newer Mix; No killswitch this time xD

Local Christian band Endure The Fall. I think I'm getting better and better at using what I have to the fullest because this is starting to come together better than the other mixes i have yet to finish. any critiques/criticism is welcome. I feel this mix is solid, though for being an...

Lets talk about 808s for a min

I am gonna get a lot of flack for this, but I can safely say that I like sub drops that distort mixes. Not utterly and completely distorting the mix, but enough to where it introduces a nice crunch whilst maintaining a smooth low end. When I hear a sub drop like that, I can feel the energy it...

One more from the same local band as last time

Same killswitch-y band as last time, but this song is less killswitch-y as the last. I know that the bass drops are FAR too loud to be good. and I think the kick may be a tad too loud as well. Aside from that, I feel like this is a pretty solid mix. Tell me what you think (: As a side note...

    Reaper Slip Editing Tutorial

Hey, I'd just like to show everyone my success with this method of drum editing. My dumbass didn't save the pre-quantize files, so I only have the edited drums in a rough mix of their final product. Take my word for it, the drummer was pretty bad. not the worst, but damn near it...

    Reaper Slip Editing Tutorial

I did a quick (i literally mean quick, too) run through of a song I'm working on for a local band. Seriously, best editing method BY far. Blows the semi/fully automatic method out of the water! I will post links tomorrow, as I am far too tired to post any right now. The quantization only took me...
