I tend to have the kick between 75 and 85 Hz and the bass around that. So if the listener has a weak audio system (which sadly is pretty likely), only the sub-bass of the of the bass guitar will disappear instead of the entire low end of the kick. The kick seems more important to me.

I do like such roomy snares and I don't think it's awful at all. But it sounds pretty isolated as the other drums are rather low and hard to hear.

Hmmm....avioding fizz seems like a goal to achieve. But does the fredman technique deliver results that couldn't be achieved with a single mic plus post-EQ?

Hi guys. How's it going? I currently try to figure out, if I want to buy another SM57 plus a fredman mic clip. Do you think that the fredman technique is superior to a single mic? Or does it serve a certain style rather than beeing always better? Are there examples where a single mic delivers...

Did the DI itself sound good? (compare your miced tracks to ampsimed tracks) Mic placement was propper? Amp-EQ was suited? Post-EQ done if necessary? Did you try different gain settings (raised, lowered)? Did you try a tubescreamer? Maybe you could try some saturation ontop of the miced tracks.

I am suprised how little the differences are. Makes me believe that I could eq 95% of the differences away (maybe not manually but with match-eq for sure)
