    Best bass distortion plug-in

My favorite plugin for this is THC, followed by Camel Crusher, though for the most part I've given up on distortion simulations. Short of using a good bass amp nothing beats splitting/re-amping the signal into a Mesa/Marshall/Peavey and blending that in. The difference is great enough to me that...

I think that's really dangerous, because you can become the ground... or something.

    ToonTrack announces Jazz EZX :)

+1 for Nashville EZdrummer is very cool. I also like the Claustrophobic and Twisted kits for more experimental stuff. The included grooves are great session starters, though I use Addictive Drums now. I wish I still had it. I want to try this new Jazz kit and the Funkmasters kit.

    Purchasing a wah

Dunlop 535 for me. No Q needed, there is a tone knob for low/mid/high emphasis. Another nice thing about this one is the LEDs on the top so you know if it's off/on or if the boost is engaged.

What do you guys use to bring volume up on a single track?

Digital clipping offers no benefit. This has nothing to do with analog audio. If your master bus is clipping before the fader/plugins you need to pull all tracks down. If you are clipping the master bus, then you are also clipping the input of the first plugin and plugins are not designed for...

What do you guys use to bring volume up on a single track?

It sounds better to leave plenty of headroom on the master bus, rather than push it. Bring the level up on the master bus post-fader.

    OHs / Vocals

I've used the SP C4s numerous times as drum OHs and I love them. Those are good mics, and I would look for a used pair rather than buying new. As far as vocal mics, I have an SM7b and it is a great mic, but in my experience if you don't have a really nice preamp (Great River, API, Pacifica...

Guitar double tracking - same tone or no?

It depends on the number of guitar tracks, but for me, this is what I like: 2 Tracks: Amp1< >Amp2 3 Tracks: Amp1<Amp2>Amp1 4 Tracks: Amp1.Amp2< >Amp2.Amp1 Using a different amp when doing only two tracks does make it unsymmetrical but I just prefer the perceived depth of sound that...

Guitar double tracking - same tone or no?

I prefer different tones on each side. It makes the mix nice and wide. Different, complimentary amps if possible. Like a DR + 5150 or Marshall, but changing amp settings/channels or pickups will work too. Same guitar, though.
