    Opinions/critiques on latest song/mix

Hi all, Haven't posted in a long time. Finishing up a new "demo" for my band. Just wanted some opinions/critique on the mixing and what not. Another forum member has been doing a badass job mixing and mastering our stuff for our CD, but I still like to work on my skills when time permits...

    Wide guitars

duplicating the guitar tracks won't make them sound any bigger. Just louder and muddier. You'll need to actually play and track them separately.

    Wide guitars

I generally use two different IR's for my guitars. If I feel that my guitars aren't "big enough" I'll quad track them and pan 1 hard left, 1 hard right, 1 75% left and 1 75% right. I also don't go crazy on the eq. highpass to cut out the rumble/mud, make a few cuts for drums/bass/vox and...

    new mix, guidance/advice?

Hi guys, I'm playing with the idea of finding someone to pay to master our stuff for us. The link is to the latest demo of my band. http://www.reverbnation.com/shivastone/song/20374786-nephilim I did all the mixing and "mastering" if you want to actually call it that. I just threw a...

Section from one my bands songs.

Try cutting the distortion some. I think my typical settings for live play are a setting around 68% and my recording settings are in the low 50's I find myself using much less distortion on my guitars when recording, especially when doing multiple takes. It sounds like poo at first, but then...

    latest mix - advice/critique?

Hey all, Been working on a lot of new things.. changed DAWs, it is super fun to relearn a new DAW lol, changed just about everything. Decided that I was kind of in a rut while learning, so ditched all my old stuff and started over. The song is still pretty rough. There are some timing issues...

    mix critique/advice

Thanks man :) All progress I've made mixing has just taken a big regression as I recently changed from Sonar X1 over to Logic Pro X. I've been trying a lot of new things with getting everything to gel better and making the drums sound decent lol...

Another DIY-dude looking for ways to improve.

Try experimenting with your IR's for your guitars. Also, turn the distortion/gain down on them when recording. I've been using a Catharsis Fredman impulse for the left side guitars and a JCM2000 for the right side guitars. I track 4 guitars for rhythm and generally do a 90% L, 80% L and...

How did you start your mixing adventures?

So it's been about a year or so that I've started to dabble in the world of recording and mixing. How did you guys start? What did you do to find your own "sound" for your mixes? Does it drive you as crazy trying to find that perfect sound like it does me? I've just started downloading some...

    Mix feedback please :)

It could just be this head cold messing with me, but it seems that the guitars and drums aren't always in time together and the double bass at the 3:40 mark is quite fake, and overpowering, sounding to me.

    mix critique/advice

Hey all. I'm somewhat happy with the newest mix I've been able to accomplish, but it still lacks that clean/wide sound. I also don't enjoy how the vocals "sit" and how dry they are. Big influence on our singer is Chino from the deftones. While I don't want to get super heavily processed like...

    Help Needed for Mixing Snares

I use superior drummer too and I play around with the actual snare sample until I find the one I like also (depends on my mood and what I'm writing). You may find the snare and the tone you are after simply by just clicking the little arrow on the snare and changing the snare drum. Superior...

    Help Needed for Mixing Snares

I found these a while ago and use them to help me get the tone I'm looking for. They are good starting points if you're pretty new to mixing (like me) and can set you on the right path to getting the tone you're looking for. I don't remember if I found these on this forum or somewhere else, but...

    Feedback on this mix?

Hi, thanks for the response. Updated the track. This is going to be our final "demo" version of the song. https://soundcloud.com/shivastone/remnant_demo Getting the bass right is definitely still a big work in progress for me. Same with vocals lol. Did some changes to the vocals and...

    Feedback on this mix?

Hey guys, been working on a new song for my band. I feel it's leaps and bounds over the previous things I've done as far is mixing is concerned. Would love some critique/feedback on the mix. Same as always, guitars are HD500 -> UX2 -> DAW. Bass is DI. Drums are played by my drummer...
