7 string "standard" is B not B# =) And it would just be called C anyways. 7 string guitars are great though. Especially if its the 7 string Caparison!

Those books are great..especially the 3rd one on progressions and improv. You should probably know a little theory before getting into the books as I imagine they would be confusing if you dont know any theory. Buy a book on music theory. =)

anything detuned can sound sloppy if you dont increase the gauge of your strings. Its all about keeping the clarity when you downtune. Loomis uses 80 gauge on down on his 7 string for albums and live he uses 65 or 70 i believe. As far as a good guitar for downtunning....and pretty much a good...

Peavey 5150/6505 is simply the best for the money. About $500-700 for a good shape used head. Framus Cobras and VHT Pitbulls are also great amp heads but getting up there in price...around $2000+. Another great amp is the Engl 100 (if you are lucky enough to find one) or the 120. One of the best...

All eqing is done with mic placement. An SM57 will work great...you can also dual mic it by micing the 57 at the best speaker out of the 4 and by using a bass drum mic (shure beta 91) and putting it in front of the cab on the floor. As far as mic placement on cone for eqing..a little reference...
