    Ronnie James Dio - 1942-2010

I knew he had been unwell for some time but I was still shocked when I heard the news. RIP Ronnie and thank you from the bottom of my metal loving heart for the music.

    the official movie thread

Watched Iron Man 2 and Prince of Persia: Sands of time back to back at work. Both films were alright , but nothing dazzling . I think the best part of Iron Man is Robert Downey Jr and his interaction with Gwyneth Paltrow. As soon as the explosions and the big guns started , I was lost and...

The Book Thread! All opinions welcome!

C, I would recommend the Lord John books definitely, especially Lord John and the Brotherhood of the Blade. Then again I really like the character. I have read 'An Echo in the Bone' and once you've read it we'll discuss it further if you'd like. Personally I'm waiting for 'Lord John and the...

    the official movie thread

Watched Centurion and I enjoyed it. I didn't think I would. It's all about this legion who get decimated by the Picts , and the survivors are being chased by this relentless hunter so they're trying to get away to safety. Michael Fassbender did a good job, I was quite impressed with him. I must...

The Book Thread! All opinions welcome!

Haven't been to this thread in a while... I've been making more of an effort to read different stuff this year as I noticed I'd stopped and I'd started to miss it. I finally read the Outlander series that C recommended, and enjoyed most of it immensely. Probably the first 3 books were the best...

    the official movie thread

Watched a couple of films that deserve a mention recently. Mesrine:Killer Instinct and Mesrine : Public Enemy Number One. Vincent Cassel did a tremendous job. I was very impressed, even though I didn't know anything about the guy. Apparently he was this french gangster in the 60s and 70s. New...

    New Album Purchases

Happy New Year! I recently checked out a band from Russia called Citadel which was quite interesting. The male and female vocalists were quite good but I couldn't help thinking the male vocalist was a bit overpowering. The vocalist in me kept wanting to shout at him about vocal blending rather...

    New Album Purchases

Have been playing lots of Amberian Dawn, 'Design your universe' by Epica and 'The Days of Gray' by Sonata Arctica. I haven't decided whether I like it quite yet which is odd for me with a Sonata Record. It's usually instant love for me.

Other recent female-vocal releases -- opinions?

Ooh, that sounds good. I love the singer's voice and that always sells a band for me.

Once Upon a Nightwish: reviews and discussion

Ah, bless! Umm, back on topic...I thought everyone was at the point where they just wanted to get on with their lives. Tarja's bringing out her second album, Nightwish have finished the tour with Anette. Seriously, I'm a bit sick of hearing about it. The damage's has kind of been done. What...

Other recent female-vocal releases -- opinions?

I like Diablo Swing Orchestra, Amberian Dawn (purely for Heidi's voice) and the new Epica is pretty mint. Simone had really come on leaps and bounds since I first heard her. I'm on the fence about Pythia. I thought I'd like it as I love the Mediaeval Baebes and the singer was in that, but I...

Once Upon a Nightwish: reviews and discussion

I wonder if this is ever going to get to court.... EDIT: It's a long time since I've posted here, I just realised.
