Unless you are recording like a full band live or need to play out with a bass rig, I would just still mic a bass going through a guitar amp for the amp sound and mix it with a DI if you want. i have a fucking svt 8x10 and it literally just sits here.
Bands around here literally only want to book one day to record a whole project and and I'm lucky I get anything done. I give them a huge list of how to be prepared and what exactly preproduction is, why you need click tracks, what you can do before hitting the studio to save time etc, and still...
I have been thinking about getting a console mostly for the purpose of 'wowing' potential clients for years, haha. A console is one of those things that's kind of burned into most folks mind as being something that defines a 'recording studio'.
