Thanks for the reply. Man, I am starting to get the feeling that there is no quick way to quantize trem picked riffing. I tried the "auto-split" function that uses a gate to detect the transients, but it fails terribly.

Hey everyone, ive done some searching to find a good method to easily quantize tremolo picked riffs, but have mostly come up with drum quantizing discussions. Using reaper, ive tried splitting at transients (which is mind numbing with trem-picked guitar riffs)...would I be better served...

It also depends on how hard you fretting hand presses as well since notes tend to sharp as you press. Striking the strings hard really only negatively affects lower registers/open strings though. A well intonated guitar and good player should rarely have a problem.

You need to get familiar with melodic tension and resolution. There is a huge line between writing riffs and making a cohesive song that flows...which is why it takes me months to write one...MONTHS. It also doesn't help that it has to be perfect to my ears. Like no hint of being contrived...

Practice playing the set while looking ahead and pace forward,left and right every 15 seconds or so then. Do it very deliberately. Some coordination with the rest of the band in key passages during the set will go a long way.
