Regarding the funk passage in The Lotus Eater

the funk part is awesome. I love funk and jazz music aswell, and they pulled it off perfectly. Everything about it is great with the clavinet style keyboards, clean wah-wah'd guitar, popping bassline and grooving drum beat. They should do a album of nothing but funk (like with the only mellow...

    Opeth's Live Sound

at the show I saw last month, I started off in the stand right behind the sound desk (usually the best sounding spot) and the sound was good but seemed a bit low in the volume. Once I moved closer to the stage it sounded perfect. Usually sound issues have as much to do with the venue and...

What does this band sound like live?

they are fantastic live, trust me. They pull off the mellow/acoustic sections awesomely live, but it is generally a bit more intense than on the albums. Some of the subtleties are lost live, but the intensity, mood and atmosphere of hearing it live more than make up for it.

    hex omega

I love that song, its one of my favourites off Watershed. I love the fact it never really goes where you would expect, the opening riff never reappears and seems to build it self up to a reprise of the chorus riff at the end but finishes with that slow grinding riff. Also I love the fact that...

Do you still listen to Watershed?

I still listen to Watershed 3 or 4 times a week. Its still amazing. Personally it is still my favourite Opeth album as there isnt 1 song i dont like on it. Album of the year for me.

Death Magnetic - Out Sep. 12 Worldwide

I managed to get a hold of the album, and fuck me it is awesome!!!! The first 2 songs are worth buying the album for alone. James is back as rhythm king and Kirk obviously has been practicing. Only gripes are Lars drumming and lack of Rob Trujillo in the mix. Lars has never been the best drummer...

    Favorite OPETH ballad

Not on the list but I have to go for To Rid The Disease. It has the most beautiful chorus of any Opeth song ever (imo anyway). Pity they didnt do the backing vocals when they played it live but it was still awesome.

    pics at thebarton theatre adelaide

My pics came out terrible too so I didnt bother posting them. But my memories are still intact :) great concert and vibe in the crowd. Usually there are way more arseholes in the moshpit at metal gigs but everyone was respectful and all seemed happy to be there. I still cant get over how good...

    Opeth @ the Thebarton Adelaide

definitely agree with you on Deliverance. While I love that album, that song definitely wasnt my favourite, until last night. I am so glad I left the stands and joined the mosh in time for that. The closing riffs just killed. Also I was never a big fan of The Night and Silent Water but the...

    Opeth @ the Thebarton Adelaide

Just got back, great show. Pretty much the same setlist as Perth and Japan but I am not complaining. I mean come on, Bleak, Baying of the Hounds, Lotus Eater, Serenity Painted Death, cant really complain. I was hoping for Wreath, but deliverance was so fucking good I cant complain, the last 3...

    Opeth in Perth

nice setlist, that is the same as the Japan shows correct? I would prefer they didnt drop Wreath for Deliverance but other than that I cant wait for tomorrow night in Adelaide. I havent been this excited about a concert for fucking years, not even for Eric Clapton.

Should Fredrik use the slide during the lead in The Drapery Falls?

Sounds perfectly fine to me, I have heard some shit live slide playing before and there was nothing wrong with what Fredrik played. I think people over analyse this stuff way too much. I would rather something be played from the heart and be meaningful and move people rather than be note perfect...
