    Let's discuss "dark" metal.....

Hmmm...how about some mid-era theGathering? (Mandylion, Nighttime Birds, How To Measure a Planet?). I enjoyed thsoe 3 albums more than their latter stuff, personally. I don't mind that they went in a more tripped-out direction..but the majority of the songs just never grabbed me like the...

Video from our set on Friday...

Hahah, somehow I misread that as "Larry says they are bad", I'm like wtf? And hey, not only are Kirk's solos on Death Magnetic the best in 20 years...the entire album's the best thing they've done in 20 years.

Listened to the new Blind Guardian over the weekend. Longer songs (most in the 6-9 minute range) with a lot going on in them. It kinda made my head spin while listening..but still pretty cool. I got the 2 CD special edition, which has demo mixes, an orchestral version of a track...a...

Just finished listening to the new Melvins recently. Yeah...like these guys ever disappoint! I've also got new Maiden and Black Label Society to look forward to. So much to listen to, so little time to do it all.

    Metal DVD Recommendations?

Aside from the already mentioned Amon Amarth, Novembers Doom (naturally), Opeth...and yes, Manowar: Roadrunner United-Badass show. I wish I'd gone and I know a lot of people shit on them, but the Hatebreed DVD's just brutal. So much intensity both from the band, and the fans themselves...

Ok, so that's 2 of us that she corrupted, because that's how I got my start with ND too. And I've never looked back since. Of course, she could have recommended a friggin Yanni CD and I would have gone along with it. :yow:

Off-topic debate: "Monotheist" vs "Eparistera Daimones"

Although I haven't listened to it in a very long time (probably since it came out), I remember how surprised I was at the overall heaviness of Monotheist. Maybe it's because of the better production capabilities (and didn't Tatgren master it?), but that album's light years beyond anything...

    The ND Social Thread

I'll proudly admit I'm a pro wrestling fan. Have been since I was 9, and I'm almost 34 now. I've tried to get away from it several times, but it just keeps sucking me back in lol. I've given up watching the WWE (except for oldschool DVD sets like Survivor Series, Summerslam, etc), and now I...

    R.I.P. Petrus

Sorry guys, off-topic I know, but I felt it had to be done. As posted on Blabbermouth, and several other sites, Peter Steele (Type O Negative/Carnivore) passed away Wednesday at the age of 48. In the days leading to his death, he had been ill, and it's rumored that his heart gave out...

New Unleashed is everything I thought it would be, which is totally killer! The digipak version's got an extra track (Death cover)...totally worth checking out.

    Iron Maiden

What's wrong with Nostradamus? Well, the first CD literally put me to sleep. The 2nd picked up a little steam, but sadly, not enough momentum to declare it one of their best works. Still better than Turbo though :) The most untouchable CD in Priest's catalog is Defenders of the Faith

    Iron Maiden

Turbo is the biggest pile of crap not sung by Tim Owens, to bear the Priest logo. I'll even take Nostradamus over Turbo. As far as that fight goes...Lick It Up all the way (Hey, it was my first exposure to Kiss...I gotta enjoy it!). As far as the Maiden goes, I personally don't think SIT or...

I don't want to get off on a rant here...but.... Triptykon is just fucking massive. :OMG: It's got all the heaviness of Monotheist, and that's a brilliant thing. Also anxiously awaiting the new Unleashed....I've heard good stuff about Overkill, who are usually a hit or miss band with...
