    Help me understand bass compression

Use a comp with a lpf, maybe around 80-100hz just to ease some trigger off the lowest end. Or a light multiband prior to main comp/limit for balancing between the bands. If I'm doing the bi-tone (clean/dirt) 2/3 track setup, I do struggle with a single comp/limit combo on the main bass buss. The...

    Dirk Verbeuren new Megadeth drummer!

Boo hiss. Sure a pay raise and all that, but I can't imagine it being anything more than a hired gun for the "Dave show" and he'll be out just as fast as any other rotation the band sees. Was really hoping Soilwork would be back at it, Ride Majestic was a slamming album.

Speeding up a song. Highest quality solution/algorithm?

Export raw drums, and stretch all by equal amount prior to slip edit/quantizing. I'd recommend Izotope RX, but don't really go beyond 5-10bpm for the cleanest sound. I think trying to quantize without stretching would be a hot mess especially in the overheads, so stretch raw drums all equally...

    Impossible to adjust Reamp levels

Yeah if your line level output is set to 0db for a track peaking -7db, and you are coming into an input set to line level (if you have an instrument/line switch, you need it on line) that is also 0db, you should not have that much change in signal level especially to clip. So makes me think...

    Impossible to adjust Reamp levels

Is there any other control (maybe interface control panel?) for input and outputs that aren't set to 0db? If you record at -7db, just run a single cable from an output to an input and monitor where the signal is coming back in at. If it's still that much quieter, than it's not the reamp. The...

    Kick beater miking

I could see it having a bit of bleed but might be cool for something really dynamic. I'd also maybe just get another mic in the kick and get right up on the head/beater if I want something super clicky. Maybe a 3 mic, close, mid, out/sub blend could be cool.

Cut my strings too short : trying a fix

I'd use an old string before rigging something like that. I can't see the string vibrating remotely normal as two separate pieces. Sucks, but I'd say old string or wait.

    New Gojira

I think I read that it was self recorded and then mixed by their FOH engineer. I think that's kind of a cool approach to work with the same ears who helps you translate live. I'm sure another engineer could have gave their sound a cool spin, but it was probably easy for them to work with someone...

    Darkglass B7K Ultra

I went the other way, I had an VT Deluxe (which I actually used live as a preamp into a poweramp to power an ampeg 8x10) but then later got an SVT-CL head and now have the B7K added to it. Much prefer the B7k, wish I would have waited and got the Ultra but now I'm thinking of waiting and getting...

Headphone amp for a project studio situation

My Aphex Headpod (4 channel) has a shit ton of headroom before any distortion.

Help with stereo enhancer on the master?

I really dig bx_digital2 to center bass freq 80hz, a hint of deesser and to give a tiny touch of widening 5% or so.

Best way to add a 500 rack to my setup?

I bet the saffire pres are fairly neutral, you'll get a lot more color and character still hitting the 500 first. You can update converters later if really needed.

Thermionik 5 - Demo Download Released

For me it was definitely hitting way too hot. I was using a stock Epi les paul with it's cheap passive pickups (not hot at all), and I get my peaks hitting around -6db or so. When I put on TSE X50 and do the input listen, it still adds a bit more gain to hit the amp for good saturation (6-8db)...

    Wide guitars, phasing, and m/s

Too wide on the spread I think. I find anything more than 5-10% pushing it when widening already hard or close to hard panned guitars. You want just a hint of widening, nothing drastic.
