Are USPM and EUPM good stylistic differentiators for power metal?

Yeah, but not every European power metal band is "flowery." What about 90s Blind Guardian? Even some of the keyboard bands like Sabaton have a rather "aggressive" feel that isn't like that of Sonata Arctica or Avantasia.

Are USPM and EUPM good stylistic differentiators for power metal?

USPM is generally defined as aggressive and riff-based, with bands including Manowar and Iced Earth, and EUPM is generally the more recognized approach with a lighter sound and keyboards, with bands including Rhapsody and Sonata Arctica. If I have to be completely honest, I am not entirely sure...

Is melodic death metal still a subgenre of death metal, or has it become its own thing?

Yeah, Amon Amarth wasn't the best example since their early works are pretty death-metal like, but I am mostly referring to their newer mainstream stuff which is basically just Visigoth or Hammerfall with death growls.

Is melodic death metal still a subgenre of death metal, or has it become its own thing?

Now, I am aware of its death metal roots, and that bands at the time are still pretty death-ish, but honestly, I don't really think melodeath has much to do with death metal anymore, like how death metal started from thrash metal but became its own thing. While death metal has become very...

    Most beautiful metal songs?

Not like gritty or brutal works, but music that provides a sense of imagery/pleasure in your ears. This is mostly a vague thread that can include any subgenre, any aesthetic, etc. I've just recently gotten into Avantasia, and while I'll admit that their music can be a hit-or-miss at times, this...

    Creepiest metal songs?

I'm not talking about brutal or gritty works, but stuff that make you shiver. Perhaps one of the creepiest songs I've heard is this: And what is considered to be the first metal song probably hasn't been topped for half a century: So what are your thoughts? What are some creepy metal...

Pros and cons of each metal subgenre?

This is basically a thread on what you find good and bad in each metal subgenres. This is merely a subject of opinion. 1. Heavy metal Pro: Probably my favorite one of all. It just sounds so pure and basic; not overdone. You can't beat the classics. Con: Sometimes it's hard to classify which...

So what exactly is speed and gothic metal?

Two genres recognized by the Metal Archives-speed and gothic-kind of confuses me. I still find these terms a bit ambiguous. For speed metal, it is defined as "less abrasive and more melodic than thrash metal, showing less influence from hardcore punk. However, speed metal is usually faster and...
