I know it's not specified but I guess I'll define early 70's as 1971-75. Here goes (in no particular order):

1. Jethro Tull - Aqualung
2. Genesis - Foxtrot
3. Pink Floyd - Dark Side Of The Moon
4. The Who - Quadrophenia
5. Jethro Tull - A Passion Play
6. Genesis - The Lamb Lies Down On Broadway
7. Elton John - Captain Fantastic And The Brown Dirt Cowboy
8. Pink Floyd - Wish You Were Here
9. Kansas - Song For America
10. Peter Hammill - Chameleon In The Shadow Of The Night

:headbang::kickass::headbang::lol:

In no particular order. I've focused on Hard Rock groups and limited each group to one album:

Bang - s/t
Budgie - Bandolier
Buffalo - Volcanic Rock
Dust - Hard Attack
Groundhogs - Split
Night Sun - Mornin'
Scorpions - Lonesome Crow
Three Man Army - A Third of a Lifetime
T2 - It Will All Work Out in Boomland
Ursa Major - s/t

(of course any Led Zeppelin, Uriah Heep, Black Sabbath, Who, Wishbone Ash and even Aerosmith during the period 70-75 could replace anyone of these)

How could I forget these gems :worship:...should of been the top 100  :headbang: :kickass:

Blue Oyster Cult "Secret Treaties"
Blue Oyster Cult "Tyranny & Mutation"
Budgie "Never Turn Your Back On A Friend"
Armageddon "s/t" 1974
Stray Dog 'While Your Down There"
ZZ Top "Trez Hombres"
Styx "Styx 1st"
Bloodrock "2"
Jetro Tull "Thick As A Brick"
Humble Pie "Smokin'"
Cactus "One Way Or Another"
James Gang "Bang"
James Gang "Miami"

Cool Idea for a thread!

Captain Beyond - s/t
Uriah Heap - Look At Yourself
Armageddon - s/t (Keith Relf's band version)
Wishbone Ash - Argus
Free - Fire and Water
Deep Purple - Machine Head (or Made In Japan)
The Who - Who's Next
Epitaph - Outside the Law
Led Zeppelin - II
Nektar - Remember the Future (hard prog?)

:kickass::kickass:

You're right RK.....could even go to top 40 and more. The 70's were an amazing time for rock music. If I was asked, I would say the best decade for music.

Love the Priest especially the early years from Sad Wings Of Destiny to Hell Bent For Leather...have all of their CD's except the Ripper Owens ones...I still might pick up some day.

I was quite thrilled when I heard about Ripper Owens joining Judas Priest. Sadly, I was very disappointed with the albums he was on. I felt that they didn't let him express his true talent.

Same here I really like Rippers vocals but didn't like the direction the music took on those albums and they were kind of a let down...hopefully he'll surface with a new kick ass band of his own soon...with some big name players...don't know if Beyond Fear still exists.

Beyond Fear was a pretty good band.

I would like to see Ripper team up with Michael Harris to create a band that plays 70's inspired metal.....slightly psychadelic with a prog edge. :kickass:

Now your talking Raptured...and throw in Mike's brother Brian on drums to the mix...yeah pretty much anything Mike does is awesome. :worship: :headbang: :kickass:
