15 years later, Iron Maiden finally to return to Australia...

This is going to be a great tour, incidentally. Awesome stage show, and it will highlight some of their best material, imo.

Great poster for the tour, too:

Kickass poster. But I find it a bit odd that Eddies Megastore has the shirt listed for sale already, complete with "World tour '08" on the back. I'm sure it's great promotion, but I'd feel a bit strange seeing someone in a shirt for a tour that won't take place for several months.

Maiden fanboy here. 25+ years. This new tour ought to be great, especially since my memories of the 86-88 tours are a bit hazy these days. Maiden's at the top of their game. Interestingly I have only recently been getting into the X Factor. Starting to dig that album a bit now.

I'm considering going. Can someone tell me what the set list is likely to be?

I mean, if it's going to be 10 tracks from their new album and 3 from Killers I will pass.

My understanding is that it is going to be from Piece of Mind, Powerslave, Somewhere in Time, and Seventh Son of a Seventh Son. It's the "Middle Years" tour (as opposed to the Early Years tour they did a while back). My expectation is NO new stuff. The set is supposed to be an even more elaborate version of the set from the World Slavery tour.

read the press release, it's gonna be tracks from the first 7 albums ... so they're still playing run to the hills and the trooper, for the millionth time.. lazy bastards :p oh well, rime of the ancient mariner alone makes it all worth seeing

Ugh. Yeah, I don't ever need to hear them play the song Iron Maiden ever again... At the very least, they should avoid Paul songs.

Here's a thinly disguised setlist from the Maiden website:

Rod Smallwood, Iron Maiden's Manager, further commented; "Following Bruce's various hints from on stage this last year about our plans for 2008 ("We are taking some time off to build some pyramids!"), fans have been pestering me for details of the tour and especially asking which songs from that era will be played. That may be as easy as a run in the hills but we will keep our aces close to our chest on this issue. I know it would only take a couple of minutes but at this stage of planning, I'd have to be clairvoyant to know what they will do. I'm sure though it will be no revelation for you that we intend to make up for those wasted years by visiting a large number of hallowed metal venues around the world. Historically 'Powerslave' was an incredibly important album for the band and it would be madness if we didn't give the fans a taste of the full on Iron Maiden show from that time. With our jumbo there really is no rime nor reason why the band cannot now visit fans almost everywhere as many have been real troopers to have waited this long. Heaven only knows what the band will choose but if l could and did tell you now l would have to shoot you! You'll all have to be patient and see. But it will be spectacular. No fear!!"

As late as FOTD, huh? That's from the 90's, and it's supposed to be an 80's setlist from what I've heard.

Edit: perhaps Rod means there will be no FOTD...

I can't wait. I was lucky enough to see them touring for Fear Of The Dark in Sydney in 1992, and Im proud to say I will have seen them 2 of 3 times they've been to our shores. Maiden rules!!!!!!
