These are the two songs Spiral Architect had on the "A Gathering" compilation of Norwegian bands back in 1995 (holy crap, 14 years ago?).
1. Fountainhead
2. Purpose
They feature Leif Knashaug on vocals and Kaj Gornitzka on guitar, both currently of Twisted into Form. The vocals on Fountainhead are naturally slightly different than what you're used to hearing from Oyvind on the A Sceptic's Universe version, and the lyrics from Purpose would eventually become Spinning in an altered state.
Personally - while the difference in vocals might be the primary focus for everyone, the production quality is what jumps out at me the most. Everything in the mix is very clear and distinct compared to ASU, the only exception being the bass a little too quiet.
