Monsters Of Rock 2007 'very unlikely' to go ahead
Classic Rock is sad to report that the Monsters Of Rock Festival - which made a storming comeback at Milton Keynes Bowl last year with a bill that included Deep Purple, Alice Cooper and Journey - is almost certainly on the back burner for 2007.

A source close to the MOR camp told us that given the availabilities (or lack of same) of several key artists, the staging of a Monsters Of Rock event this year is looking "very unlikely indeed".

Many big-name artists have already announced shows of their own this summer, or are committed to rival festivals. Ozzy Osbourne is playing Wembley Arena on June 19 (the same month that MOR 2007 would have been staged) while Iron Maiden are headlining the Download festival on June 10. Maiden are likely to be joined by the likes of Motley Crue and Saxon at Download, making it a significantly 'trad metal' day.

Meanwhile, Van Halen - reunited with frontman David Lee Roth, although we are still awaiting 100 per cent confirmation of that fact - are thought to be asking too much money to make an MOR appearance viable.

Just saw this on the Classic Rock Magazine website it was posted by Geoff Barton (that well known rock scribe) on 1st Feb 2007
What do you all think ..Good or Bad?.... (shame about MOR but if Saxon are going to play Download then atleast it should open the eyes of masses who are still unaware of the band)

It's very sad if Monsters of Rock does'nt happen this year,it was really good last year, except for maybe that the attendance was'nt as high as they had hoped for.
I'm just hoping that the day Maiden play at Download there will be other similar bands on the same day.

Thanks for the info, Fire in the Sky! :)

I just found this too,Looks like Harvey Goldsmith was'nt Bullshitting when he said Saxon would play Donnington.
There looks like being no Monsters of Rock this year in the UK due to the lack of a suitable big name headliner – OZZY is already headlining Wembley and IRON MAIDEN headline a day at Download and AEROSMITH (they play the Arrow Rock festival on June 30th) are lining-up their own arena/stadium dates. HEAVEN & HELL, who were hot tips to headline MOR, will announce UK tour dates soon. Meanwhile SAXON join IRON MAIDEN at Download with MOTLEY CRUE hotly tipped as special guests on that day as well.
