2010 Stinkers

Haven't heard the new Yngwie to have an opinion yet but for my taste:

Iron Maiden, Helloween, 90% of Avantasia, Cathedral

I've found this to be another great year in metal (following a dynamic 2009). So I've no true "stinkers". I suppose the only release that I'm a bit disappointed with is Accept's "Blood".

I've not given it too many true listens, but I've not been keen on Helloween's heavier push back into the classic power metal sound. Again, it's too soon for me to render a complete judgement, but I dont think this record matches any of the other DeReis era records (all of which are excellent, IMO).

MOST disappointing was the news that My Dying Bride's "Evinta" was pushed back from October to "early 2011". :(

Ozzy sucked, which on the one hand disappointed me because Gus G = God. On the other hand, it was sort of expected anyways.

New Maiden didn't do much for me.

Avantasia was a bit of a letdown. Not bad by any means, but a far cry from Scarecrow. Here's hoping the new Edguy is better.

Nevermore - nothing memorable from this album

Also Charred Walls of the Damned, which sounded interesting at first, but turned out to be nothing special.

I haven't yet subjected myself to the new Ozzy album & have no intention of bothering with Rob Zombie or Slash, which I've already assumed will be stinkers.

but I've not been keen on Helloween's heavier push back into the classic power metal sound.

We must have listened to different albums. To me it lacks power and that's why to me it's a stinker. I wish they would have returned to the early Deris sound instead of this...whatever they came with that I didn't like.

However I love new Nevermore. IMO far better than "Enemies of reality" and even I like it more than "This godless...". And even I lost faith in Helloween since "The dark ride" but I think the new one has surprised me. I enjoy the listening.

My list:

Iron Maiden, Dimmu Borgir & Kamelot: I didn´t expect anything good anyway.

BLind Guardian: Better than the previous one but rather average.

Ereb Altor: Not bad but far from their first masterpiece

Slough Feg: Good but nothing outstanding life the rest of their career.

Therion: One of my favourites bands. Personally I consider every Therion album (since the death metal years) is overwhelming. However "Sitha atra" has been totally disappointing for me. Just one hymn: "Hellequin"

Orphaned Land: A very good album, maybe 7,5/10 but the rest of their discography is 9/10 or plus.

Pain Of Salvation: What were they thinking? Trash.

Interesting commentary.
I love Slough Feg and agree that their new record is probably a shade below their back catalogue. I still enjoy it quite a bit so I cant consider it a stinker!

Your POS comment validates my fears. I gave up on them after the dreadfully dull "Be" and had no interest in what I heard of the last record. However, my interest in POS was nearly rekindled by the seemingly endless, glowing, positive reviews of the new record I'd read. Its samples did nothing for me, however, so I never bought it. Thankfully.

While being far from a stinker the new Nevermore was utterly underwhelming and disapointing - not good enough for me to buy (and I like to buy everything I find to be good).

The only really memorable tune on the new one is "and the maiden spoke". It shows that they still have it in them. Most of the rest feels uninspired and "meh" to me.
