What are the main differences in the pre's & converters? As there is quite a price difference

And I've noticed something to do with API being mentioned in other threads I know api make outboard stuff but what are people using them for with mic'ing 5150's

I would expect the pre's to be pretty close to be honest, don't really know about the converters but really the difference they're going to make is minimal anyway.
To me the big difference is the amount of ins and outs the Profire has compared to the 003.

I think the price difference is much more to do with Digi overpricing their stuff compared to M Audio.

People are using API preamps for mic'ing guitars. API pre's are very high quality and can be made to distort and saturate in a nice way if you drive them hard.

I have 2626 and I'm really satisfied with it's quality.
I had 5150 few months ago and I've recorded some shitty sounding clip, but maybe it can help you
