I turned my amp on today and it's making a weird popping sound on both channels.
Playing through it sounds weird too, it's quite muddy and cuts out when the pops occur.

I'll post a clip tomorrow, but I searched and couldn't find anything.

I have no Idea tbh, but the issue seems to have sorted itself after plugging it into a different socket (it was plugged into an extension cable before).

1. with your amp ready to play, jiggle the preamp tubes around and find the one that is making the noise.

2. clean your preamp tube sockets. spray contact cleaner on the pins of a tube and work it in and out.

3. tube sockets DO get loose after years of use and you can tighten the contacts up with a tiny screwdriver or whatever.

^problem is 5150 sockets are directly soldered to the circuit board.

Popping sound usually indicates a filter cap going bad, it could still be the tubes though. A lot of people seem to forget, when vacuum tubes fail, the way the operate is very unpredictable and can do just about anything on the books and then some.
