this is gonna be interesting.
same settings on both channels (cept gain), so you really hear only the difference between the red and the green channel.

which one do you prefer, the thick juicyness of the green or the br00tz of the red?
(doubletracked guits)

green
red

Red.

Green is great for power chords that are allowed to ring out and you want some big ass tone...say...

Burn Your Wishes (Adam D. & Ken Susi side project)

Red is better for Killswitchy, Unearthy, typey, stuffey.

In my opinion at least.

This is with your biased 5150, right? I'd say Green 9 times out of 10, but I'm not sure. Well frankly, it's not a night/day difference but. ;)

I was tempted at making a thread like this. Whats strange is that the tone of the green and red sound s bit different, the green has a smoother softer not as harsh high end and more bass as well as looser bass, the red channel can have a harsh brightness and has less bass and what is there is tighter. However IME, those sublties are lost in translation through the mic and the only difference you hear is the tightness or the loosness. When recorded though, the green doens't have an agressive in your face punch or dynamic to it.

my vote though, just like Poid said, blend the green and red.

i used the 5150 green channel boosted with an sd1 for this one.

i actually had some takes from the red channel for this song too, but ditched them in the mix...

the raw 5150 tracks definitely reminded me of old carcass, like heartwork but a tad more brutal actually.

when i gigged with the 5150 i almost always used the green channel with the sd1 for all rhythms and switched over to the red for leads...i think the red is better for leads as it as a more biting tone and also more compression/sustain.
the green channel is looser, but imho a boost counteracts this to some degree.

man i love the 5150 :)
