A dark soundtrack tune..

I really like it as usual. Which synths did you use? Also, how do you go about making stuff like this? Do you usually start with a melody or what? I'm not sure I'd know where to begin when composing something like this. I'd appreciate any advice. Also, how long did it take you to do this? Almost forgot to ask, do you study classical music at all? Do you have any training in it? When you compose, do you just strictly use your ears or use any theory as well?

Cheers man, glad it gave you chills!

Eric my man, we meet again! ;)

For synths on this one:

- Omnisphere (arps, strings, choirs).
- Orchestral Essentials.
- Symphobia 2.
- Absynth 5 (arps and ambient sounds).

As far as composing goes.. i have had about 10 tries before this came out of out my speakers.
So for me personally, its all about trying and if it sucks or just not there, try again!

I try to crawl behind my keyboard or guitar and just start using chords in a certain order, whilst doing that trying to think of what "theme" a song will contain.
That can take a day or two, i try to feed inspiration with movies and music.. i wish i did drugs lol.. would make it all easier.

So i start out with what i think can be a chorus line or a decent verse.. after that i start building around that part once it sounds decent enough.. again, trial and error!
Theory kicks in at the same time as well.. most of the time i want to avoid the standard "verse-chorus-verse-chorus-bridge-chorus x2". So sometimes you need to switch things up if needed.

I do not study music, maybe i should.. but so far it's all just based on chord progression and just playing what sounds right in your head!

Hope this helps a bit man, it's so hard to write down the exact process as it differs from time to time.

fuck me I wish I had all the synths you have. I am too poor though. I am gradually getting some though. Which synth do you think is the best out there for electronic music? What about for orchestral? Have you tried east west stuff like Hollywood strings? Thanks for the reply man. I appreciate your help. Make another toxic grind machine album too while you're at it :notworthy

Cheers Kevness!

Eric: For electronic synths.. something native instruments or omnisphere imho.
I do use nexus, toxic III and vanguard, but that is more trance electro then anything else.. omnisphere has great electronic stuff next to amazing ambient tones/patches.

For orchestral i would recommend Project Sam software for sure.. so full and rich sounding!
East West has great ones as well though, but im more into playing with kontakt (native instruments sampler) then play (east west's sampler).

I never tried hollywood strings because of the crazy pricetag of 999 dollars.. but holy shit does it sound good!
Maybe when i saved some money i could try them or LA Strings.. also very, very expensive though :(

Sick.. that is weird man, the link does work over here.
