I'll be going to Texas to meet my in laws :yow: this Xmas, and since I will be landing in San Antonio and staying about an hour from Austin, I was wondering if any of you Lone Star State residents could recommend some good record stores in those cities.

I don't know about San Antonio, but the only place I can shop for good metal here in Austin is at Hasting's. They don't have much of the really good underground metal, but they have stuff like Atheist, Cynic, Deathspell Omega, and albums that I've found in no other stores in Austin.

in San Antonio we have and theres another one the are geared to metal and deathmetal only give me an hour and i'll edit the name of the otherone on here. the have newstuff, but they also have all the albums you've been looking for that are hard to find...like old destruction and possesed and the like........scratch that...i just saw that racist post you put in the extreme metal topic.

I second this. I have been to several Hasting's and they have all proven to have a decent metal selection. Nothing terribly fancy, but I've found some pretty unlikely stuff.

crap, like 4 years ago I was in austin and found a record store with lots of underground stuff but I've forgotten the name. i'll try and remember. it was within walking distance of the university's campus

Fair call, I just prefer to be Nationalist about my own country. I dont have a problem with what other nationalities want to do, but I dont see anything good about African American culture so thats why im not really down with them. I mean Mexicans have good food so they're not too bad.

Unfortunately, most of the time, that's considered harmful pride. Very stupid. Pride does not necessarily equate to a lowering of all other races.

Though it is true, from another standpoint, that (quantatively, at least) raising your pride in your own nation to, say 110%, "depreciates" the others to 100%. However, there's an inherent hole in that logic which is obvious when you look at the number next to the percent symbol.

This thread isn't really about metal in the first place, per se. ;)

There is also a difference in that I do not regularly deviate topics to angular "subjectivity" discussions, but, I digress. :p

I also believe that every race and culture is deserving of pride, although I admit a-rabs bother me. not fond of white chick with black dudes, either. but hey, no one's perfect.

Wow, glad to see I could inspire such intellectual discussion :erk:.
@Failing: Thanks. I think I will check out what next to the university, as good records stores are always close to colleges, no matter where you go.
As far as this whole racism/nationalism discussion, I feel I need to clarify that I don't consider myself to be racist. Sure, I've been known to make off-color jokes and throw out the occasional ethnic slur, but that is my way of lashing out at political correctness, which I feel is literally destroying language and intelligent thought. To me, being a racist is having a feeling of supremacy about your own race as opposed to others, and there is no way with any confidence that I can say that white people are better than any other. I feel that culture is something that can be viewed with subjectivity and prejudice, however, which is why I feel superior to "thugs" and religious zealots.

hogwild on north main, cd trader & rock box both on perrin beitel, borders @ the quary & @ the forum have good stuff.

if waterloo recs is still in austin, that's the best i've seen...

as soon as you get to SA go get a What-A-Burger (big orange W in the sky) and then get fajitas from Taco Cabana then go get chicken fried steak at Jim's, there's locations of all 3 of them on 410 between the airport exit and I-35.

see bands @ the White Rabbit, Sanctuary, Sam's Burger Joint.

y'all need to not talk about philosophy. it's sad.

To save the trouble of making another thread does anybody know any good record stores in downtown Pittsburgh?
